The oldest high school in the Northside Independent School District, the school was known as Northside High School from 1949 until 1960, when it was renamed John Marshall High School (starting the trend among Northside high schools, all of which are named after U.S. The school was once particularly known for its vocal music department, which has made sweepstakes in UIL for the past few decades. Vo

cal music isn't the only outstanding fine arts program at Marshall, the Ram Band too has been consistent sweepstakes winners. In 1976 the band set a world's record for continuous concert, performing 52 hours and 3 minutes in Wonderland Mall(now known as Crossroads Mall) That same year, the band became the first band from the state of Texas in 20 years to be invited to march in the 1977 Tournament of Roses Parade. The Ram Band also appeared in the 1977 feature film "Rolling Thunder". The first and second band directors at Marshall have had Northside Schools named for them; Mr Bob Lewis, band director from 1957 to 1975 and Mr. Notable alumni:

John Hagy, played for the University of Texas and was drafted by the Buffalo Bills

The new 2011 - 2012 AEIS report is up for John Marshall High School.

Last year we talked about the average SAT score (Math and Reading) which was 978. For the school year 2011 - 2012 the average SAT scores are the following.

State Average score = 976
District Average = 979
JMHS = 968

A new statistic line they added to the AEIS report is the "At/Above Criterion" (Standard). John Marshall had a Criterion rating of 24.4%. This means that 24.4% of the students that took the SAT's at John Marshall made a score that would be required to meet to not take remedials when entering college. This means that 75.6% of those that take the SAT's at John Marshall would end up taking remedials if they decided to go to college.

Average SAT score in 2010 = 978
Average ACT score in 2010 = 21.3

State average SAT score = 985
District average SAT score = 998
National average SAT score = 1509

John Marshall lags behind the national SAT average by a full 531 points.

According to USA Today the following are the average SAT scores nationally broken down into groups.

Students with family incomes greater then 200k a year = 1721
Student who had taken AP courses = 1714
Asians = 1636
Whites = 1580
Males = 1523
Females = 1496
Hispanics = 1369
African Americans = 1277
John Marshall High School average = 978

Sacha Lancaster graduated from Marshall in 1997 and went on to play for the Arkansas. His most memorable moment in college football is when he sacked Tom Brady in the 1997 Citrus Bowl. He went on to play in NFL Europe and Arena Football and currently playing for the Jacksonville Sharks in Arena Football League.

In 1991 John Marshall High School lost to Odessa Permain 27 - 14. Friday Nigh Lights was based on Odessa 1988 Football team that later went on to win the State Championship with one being against the John Marshall Rams. Nice to be part of history, would of been great to win that game though. Great players such as Preist Holmes and ND Kalu played that game.
