Meals on Wheels San Antonio Nourishing lives, enabling independence, and caring for our seniors. It takes less than 1 hour to volunteer during the work week.

At Meals on Wheels of San Antonio, we help seniors maintain their independence by delivering hot, nutritious meals to their homes. Meals are prepared under the direction of a registered dietitian and are often the primary source of nutrition received by our clients. Daily interaction with volunteers can combat loneliness and provide opportunities for early intervention in life-threatening situations.

On Friday, we had the honor of celebrating one of our centenarians, Ms. Norvis, on her 101st birthday! With many thanks to Frosting Creators of San Antonio, she received a beautiful cake to help make her birthday a little extra sweet! To honor this day of remembrance and service, their volunteers assembled comfort kits for the veterans we serve and sponsored today's meals for all our clients. Their generosity helped bring comfort and nourishment to our community while honoring the spirit of service that defines this day.

At Meals on Wheels San Antonio, we appreciate the dedication of team members like Vanessa Padilla, a CNA/Activity Assistant at our Grace Place Alzheimer’s Center, who has been helping us deliver More Than A Meal for over a year and truly embodies our mission!

Vanessa shared that she gives back because there's no better feeling than knowing you're helping others. What she enjoys most about working at Meals on Wheels San Antonio is seeing the smiles on our Grace Place clients' faces each day and having the opportunity to make a positive impact in their lives. 💙

When she's not at Grace Place, Vanessa enjoys sewing!🧶 She also loves traveling, with Colorado being one of her favorite places she's visited. And while she has many interests, her love of chicken wings might top the list. If given the choice, she'd have an unlimited supply of Wingstop and would happily eat chicken wings every day.🍗

Happy Labor Day! Meals on Wheels San Antonio is closed today to celebrate our amazing staff and the hard work they do every day! We’ll be back on the road tomorrow, ready to deliver 💙🍽️

Additional meals were delivered in anticipation of our closure to ensure every older and disabled neighbor we serve would still have the nutrition they need.

Being ready makes all the difference. 💙

September is National Preparedness Month, and as we prepare the next round of shelf-stable meal boxes for our clients, we're reminded of why this work matters so much. These boxes are packed and delivered well before they're needed, helping ensure older adults have food on hand when severe weather or other unexpected events disrupt meal delivery. 📦🏡

This past weekend’s storm also reminded us that preparedness isn't just about what's in your emergency kit. It's also about knowing someone will check on you. Before inclement weather and after unexpected events, remember to reach out to older adults and homebound neighbors in your community. A simple phone call, text, or visit can make a meaningful difference.

And so, thank you to all the volunteers who helped make these boxes possible and to the meal delivery volunteers who provide that wellness check with every visit. 💙
