MEET A STAFF MEMBER MONDAY // Ms. Garcia is no stranger to our Northwood family! 🦄💚

After teaching Kindergarten last year, she’s making the jump to the big kids and is now teaching 4th grade! 📚✏️

Here’s a little bit about her: “Hi, I’m Miss Garcia! You may have seen me around Northwood in the Kinder hallway, but now you can find me in the 4th Grade Hall!

I’m so excited to be working at Northwood and to be part of such a special school. I love being at a school that is filled with so much magic, joy, and wonder.

And now I understand why we’re the Northwood Unicorns! There’s truly a little bit of magic everywhere you look! 💫

I’m so happy to be here and can’t wait for all the fun, learning, and memories ahead! 💗🦄✨”

SWEET SCIENCE // Our 2nd graders have been learning all about the states of matter solids, liquids, and gases! 💦🧱🎈

To put their learning into action, students created their own matter root beer floats and identified each state of matter along the way. They even got to observe what happens when a solid and liquid are combined and gas bubbles are released! Such a fun and delicious! way to bring science to life! 🍨🥤

CHILDHOOD CANCER AWARENESS // Today we traded our Northwood green for a little GOLDEN glow! 💛🌟

Our Unicorns wore yellow & gold today to spread awareness, show support, and stand together for children and families impacted by childhood cancer. 🌟

A little GOLD can send a BIG message: You are loved. You are supported. You are never alone. 🦄💛

ELEVATING LEARNING // Our 5th grade students explored mass, volume, and density with a fun “elevator” demonstration! ⚖️

As we added more mass to the elevator while keeping the same amount of space, students observed how the objects became more tightly packed, helping them see how density increases when more mass is packed into the same volume. Such a fun way to bring science concepts to life! 🛗✨

EGG DROP EXPERIMENT // 2nd graders conducted an egg-citing investigation this week! 🥚🤩

After reading Humpty Dumpty, our 2nd grade scientists brainstormed ways he could have prevented his shell from cracking after his big fall! Students then explored a variety of materials, identified their properties, and predicted which ones would best protect an egg.

Then, they put their ideas to the test with the egg drop experiment! 🥚⬇️ Students observed the results, compared them to their predictions, and discovered which materials were most effective at keeping their eggs safe. 🧪✨

PERIMETER IN ACTION // Our 3rd graders took math out of the classroom and into the hallways! 🏫✨

Using meter sticks, they measured tape-made polygons and calculated the perimeter of each shape. 📐📏

Who knew the hallway could be such a measure-ment of fun?! 😎➕📏

MEET A STAFF MEMBER MONDAY // This week, we’re excited to introduce our new Campus Safety Specialist (CSS), Mr. Parris! 🦺🏫

Our CSS plays an important role in helping keep our campus a safe and secure place for our students and staff each day. From conducting safety drills and checking exterior doors to walking the campus perimeter and keeping an eye on our school throughout the day, he works behind the scenes to help make sure everyone at Northwood can focus on what matters most, learning and growing! 💚🦄

Here’s a little bit about him: “Hello, Northwood Elementary family! My name is Mr. Parris, and I am excited to introduce myself as the new CSS, I am happy to be here and look forward to supporting our students, staff, and school community. I’m excited to be a part of Northwood Elementary and look forward to a great school year!”

We’re so happy to have him as part of our Northwood family! If you see him around campus, be sure to say hello! 👋

BUBBLE DAY // Bubble Day in First Grade! 🫧

Our young scientists made predictions about whether the shape of a bubble wand would change the shape of the bubbles. Then, they put their predictions to the test by experimenting with different shaped wands! 🫧🧼✨

Through hands-on exploration, students observed, tested, and discovered what really determines a bubble’s shape. Learning is always more fun with bubbles! 🫧
