Throughout the preserve you can see many pipevine swallowtail butterflies (Battus philenor). Thier host plants, swanflowers (Aristolochia erecta), are difficult to spot though and can often only be found by following a butterfly trying to lay eggs on one. This female can be seen laying her eggs on a swanflower.
