Bexar-Bulverde Fire Department

Bexar-Bulverde Fire Department Bexar-Bulverde FD is a combination fire department located within Bexar County ESD #3. Our training facility and burn house are at this location.

Bexar-Bulverde VFD is located within Bexar County ESD #3, the northern most unincorporated area of Bexar County. Our response area is approximately 47 square miles of northern Bexar County with over 62,000 residents and $8.5 billion in property assets. We border Camp Bullis on the west side, Comal County on the north side, and the City of San Antonio on the south and east sides. The department was

incorporated over fifty years ago on December 12, 1966, by a few residents who recognized the need for fire services to protect their homes and families. Operations soon moved to a small building on Borgfeld Road and that location still operates today, though greatly expanded, as Station 103. In 2007, a second station, 104, opened on Bulverde Road near Johnson High School. In 2019, Station 105, a third station and an administration building, opened on Canyon Golf Road. Our fourth station, Station 106 located on E. Evans Road, was completed in February of this year. We operate as a combination fire department, comprised of full-time and volunteer firefighters. As of today, we have 68 full-time employees including our support staff. Our current fleet consists of 3 Engines (with a 4th on order), 2 Ladder Trucks, 3 EMS Squads, 4 Brush Trucks, 2 Water Tenders, 1 Mini Pumper, 1 Heavy Rescue, 1 Polaris with Firefighting Skid, and a handful of staff vehicles. In 2020, we were awarded the prestigious ISO Fire Protection Class One (ISO 1) rating. That puts us in the top half of one percent of fire departments nationwide

Bexar-Bulverde Fire Department is proud to support volunteer fire departments in Texas through the Helping Hands Program.

We recently donated hoses and bunker gear that are still in great condition and ready to serve. Because "paid" departments like ours follow strict standards for how long certain gear can remain in service, this equipment may no longer be used by our department — but it can still make a meaningful difference for smaller communities throughout the state.

Through Helping Hands, these resources can continue doing what they were made to do: help firefighters protect lives, property, and communities across Texas.

We’re honored to support our fellow firefighters and the communities they serve.

There’s nothing better than hamburgers and hot dogs hot off the grill—especially when someone else does the cooking! 🍔🔥

A big thank you to the Veterans Memorial High School BBQ Club and their club sponsors for stopping by Station 104 and treating our firefighters to a delicious lunch. Your generosity and support made our day.

We appreciate you and all the hard work you put into serving our community. Thank you for thinking of us! 👨‍🚒

As we head into Memorial Day weekend, we pause to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Wishing everyone a safe and meaningful holiday weekend with family and loved ones.

Please remember to:
• Stay hydrated in the Texas heat
• Never leave grills unattended
• Drive responsibly and watch for first responders on the road
• Keep an eye on children especially around pools and outdoor activities

“I want to be a firefighter!” 🚒❤️

That’s something we heard more than a few times during this week’s Career Day at Wortham Oaks Elementary!

Students had the chance to meet some of our dedicated firefighters and get an up-close look at all kinds of rescue equipment — including the AirLIFE helicopter. 🚁

We also enjoyed sharing the spotlight with our fellow public safety partners at SAPD and Judson ISD Police Department as well as many other wonderful organizations. Thanks for having us, Wortham Oaks Elementary!

To the original firefighters… the moms. ❤️🚒

The ones who put out the family “fires,” keep everyone calm in a crisis, patch up bumps and bruises, answer late-night calls for help, and somehow hold it all together with love and strength.

Today, all of us at Bexar-Bulverde Fire Department /ESD 3 want to wish every mom, grandmother, stepmom, foster mom, and mother figure a very Happy Mother’s Day.

Thank you for the courage, care, patience, and heart you show your families every single day!
