Where does the City’s $489 million for Project Marvel actually come from?

Not the General Fund, which pays for police, firefighters, and streets. It comes from state tax dollars San Antonio only receives for a project like this, tax revenue from new downtown growth, and rent the Spurs will pay to use the arena.

Today, we take a moment to remember and respect those lost on September 11, 2001.

From the nearly 3,000 people who went to work that morning and never came home, to the firefighters, paramedics, and police officers who ran toward danger to help their neighbors, to the men and women who served our country in the years that followed.

We carry their memory and weight of their sacrifice with us. 💙

Public safety is the largest piece of the City budget. So what does it actually cover?

It covers police and fire, but it also encompasses programs like SA CORE, a team that sends a police officer, a paramedic, and a clinician together on mental health calls, with follow-up care from the Center for Health Care Services afterward.

Today, City Council officially confirmed Jesse Salame as the next Chief of Police of San Antonio. Chief Salame is a San Antonio native who grew up not far from District 7, graduated from Edison High School, and has served in the San Antonio Police Department for more than 26 years.

San Antonio is fortunate to have him leading our department, and I look forward to working with him to keep our neighborhoods safe.

San Antonio knows him, and he knows our city. 💙

The General Fund is what pays for our police, fire, parks, streets, and more. It’s also where the projected $158 million budget deficit you’ve been hearing about lives.

It’s just one of three buckets that make up the City of San Antonio’s $4.4 billion budget.

City Manager Erik Walsh has appointed Acting Chief Jesse Salame as San Antonio’s next Chief of Police. He is a San Antonio native and a 26-year veteran of SAPD who has led the department with steadiness since Chief McManus retired in July.

Proud to stand with him today and look forward to confirming his appointment on Council. 💙

This week, Texas launched a new pilot to help protect water systems from cyberattacks, overseen by Texas Cyber Command, which is headquartered right here in San Antonio. Top cybersecurity companies are committing real resources to help harden water infrastructure across our state, at no cost to the utilities that take part.

I’ve been asking our utilities to bring their cybersecurity plans to council so residents know how they’re being protected. This is exactly the kind of investment that gets us there.

I am proud San Antonio is at the center of protecting critical infrastructure across Texas. 💙
