, veterans, community supporters, and family members of the Weslaco 8 gathered on the rooftop of the former Military Entrance Processing Station building in San Antonio to honor the legacy of eight young men from Weslaco, Texas, who enlisted together in the United States Marine Corps during World War II. Enlisting side by side during a time of global conflict, the Weslaco 8 answered the nation’s call with courage and unity, embodying the Marine Corps values of honor, courage, and commitment.

The plaque induction ceremony included the placement of rank insignia on memorial crosses, symbolizing the service and sacrifice of these Marines. Active-duty and retired service members from all branches stood alongside the families of the Weslaco 8, underscoring that the impact of service extends beyond the individual Marine and across generations. More than a remembrance, the ceremony bridged past and present—connecting today’s Marines and communities to a legacy of shared sacrifice that will never be forgotten. 🇺🇸

In Texas today, Area Director Tony Smit provided lunch to Marines from 8th Marine Corps District and led a short discussion on identity and having a faith foundation. As a retired U.S. Marine Corps MSgt, Tony served on recruiting duty during his career and touched on how his faith provided stability in the demanding and high stress environment of reaching recruitment goals. The group was encouraged to consider where they were seeking their identity and to be not only physically fit, but spiritually as well.

For the last several years, our team has worked with several of the recruiting stations under the district, including San Antonio Marines, RS Salt Lake City Marines, and Rocky Mountain Marines.

Thank you to 8th District Commanding Officer Col David Tumanjan for the invitation and RS San Antonio Commanding Officer Maj Dylan Riedell for coordinating. We are looking forward to getting dates set to help these Marine recruiters built their total fitness.
