Last week POP, along with Historic Westside Association, Coalition for Tenant Justice and Texas Organizing Project, attended an Opportunity Home board meeting to speak out against RAD conversion and 40 proposed changes to the Move to Work Plan. Oppurtuniy Home voted yes to both. Another example of our public goods being broken down and privitized. There is still time to organize against it! We still hold our demands and will continue to organize around them:
PUBLIC HOUSING MUST STAY PUBLIC. Thousands of families remain on the public housing waiting lists, more than half of San Antonio residents are cost burdened by rent and thousands of people are unhoused. We need 100% Public Housing complexes. Not mixed income complexes, not 10% or 40% of units, not deeply affordable. 100% public housing now!
IMMEDIATE REMOVAL OF 4 EXPIRED TRUSTEE SEATS. Tenants of public housing deserve democratic participation in their house authority!
ABILITY TO VOTE ON INDIVIDUAL PROPOSALS.
Again, democratic participation. Tenants need proper information in a timely manner and the ability to impose changes that benefit them!
GENUINE COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT. Pueblo Over Profits has door knocked hundreds of doors at multiple public housing complexes and little to no residents new of these proposed changes, what RAD is or even about the board meeting where the changes would be discussed.
TRANSPARENCY. Speak about RAD truthfully! No lies or boasting frivolous amenities. Show all of the consequences of the conversion, the fees, the vacancies and the displacement!
ELIMINATE CHIEF OF STAFF POSITION. The board of trustees will point to lack of funds as the reason why maintenance is so dangerously backlogged and that RAD will fix these issues. But despite the attacks on funding, they have $150k/yr to spare for a NEW chief of staff position.
Organize against the privitization of our public and basic needs and join us now!
