Courtside Conversations: Civic Engagement, Not Politics
🗓️Saturday, June 27th
⏰10:00am-11:00am
📍Red McCombs Community Court at Hemisfair

This candid conversation explores how civic engagement extends far beyond politics; taking shape through community involvement, public spaces, local businesses, passion projects, volunteerism, advocacy, mentorship, and the everyday people who invest in the places they care about most.

Drawing from personal experiences growing up in his parents’ record shop on the west side of San Antonio, Senator José Menéndez reflects on how community connection, entrepreneurship, and first and foremost, a passion for helping people shaped an unplanned path toward civic leadership and public service.

In this interactive conversation for the community, we will explore how anyone can make a meaningful impact not only through public office, but through participation, creativity, relationship building, service, and showing up for their city and community.

No form of participation in civic engagement is too small. Just like basketball, every position and contribution is important for the win. Because strong communities are not built by politics, they are built by people who care enough to get involved.

Community resources will be at Courtside Conversations for attendees to learn about different civic engagement opportunities.

Early voting for the runoff election ends today at 7pm! Election Day is Saturday, June 13th!

Join me in supporting Robert Garcia for Alamo Colleges Board of Trustees, District 9!

Robert Garcia is a proud product of the Alamo Colleges system, having attended Northwest Vista College through the 2+2 program. With 20 years of financial leadership experience, Robert has built a successful accounting firm and has given back to the community in numerous ways, including mentoring students and awarding over $10,000 in scholarships to deserving San Antonio students.

Endorsed by the San Antonio Express News:

“Given his history with Alamo Colleges, he inherently understands a community college’s multiple roles as a gateway to higher education and an agent for workforce development.”

“It’s also clear that he approaches a potential seat on the board with equal parts passion and proficiency.

His financial acumen can be an asset to the board as Alamo Colleges manages its nearly $1 billion bond, the largest in its history. He hopes to apply his expertise in supporting our generational investment for our community.”
