This Labor Day, we’re standing up for the workers who keep Bexar County safe—and the fair pay, earned benefits and working conditions they deserve.
At Commissioners Court last week, DSABC representatives and Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, CLEAT took the mic to explain where things stand, why negotiations are at an impasse and why mediation is needed to move things forward.
More than 600 days of negotiations. A proposed 0% pay increase. Our members deserve better.
Honoring our deputies and detention officers means more than thanking them. It means giving them a fair contract that respects their work and their families’ sacrifices.

Join the Deputy Sheriff’s Association of Bexar County and ACT DSABC in congratulating Sofia Gallegos, the 2026 recipient of the Tre Machado Scholarship.
Created in memory of Bexar County Deputy Alfonso “Tre” Machado, this scholarship honors his life and service by supporting the dependents and family members of law enforcement officers as they pursue higher education.
Sofia graduated magna cm laude from Harlan High School and has been accepted with honors to Tarleton State University, where she plans to study construction science management.
Her journey is one of determination and resilience. The challenges she experienced with dyslexia taught her patience, perseverance, and the value of finding new ways to succeed. Along the way, building became both an outlet and a passion. As a member of her high school’s construction build team, Sofia developed carpentry and electrical skills, completed occupational-safety certification through her construction science class, and served as lead foreman when her team placed first in a citywide high school competition.
As the daughter of a Bexar County sheriff’s deputy, Sofia has also grown up participating in community service. She has volunteered at Sheriff’s Office events, Haven for Hope, the San Antonio Food Bankonio Food Bank, an animal shelter, and other community programs.
Congratulations, Sofia! We are proud to honor Tre’s legacy by investing in a student who embodies hard work, leadership, resilience, and a commitment to giving back.

DSABC Vice President Lance Spengler greeted the GOLF Class of Detention Cadets last week. A huge welcome to these young men and women who are taking on a career of service to us all. Thank you AT&T and New York Life Insurance Company for showing up and helping these cadets out with affordable phone and insurance plans.
