Following overnight severe storms, the City of San Antonio and CPS Energy are working to clear hazards, restore power, and support residents.

With temperatures rising, overnight resilience hubs are open for residents affected by power outages until 4 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 30.

Hubs offer:
• A place to stay cool overnight
• Basic needs and supplies
• Power and device charging
• Free Wi-Fi
• Separate pet areas with kennels

Overnight Resilience Hubs:
• Copernicus Community Center — 5003 Lord Road
• Garza Community Center — 1450 Mira Vista
• Miller’s Pond Community Center — 6175 Old Pearsall Road
• Normoyle Community Center — 700 Culberson
• Northeast Senior Center — 4135 Thousand Oaks
• Southside Lions Senior Center — 3303 Pecan Valley Drive

Bring clothing, necessary supplies, and medications if staying overnight.

Stay Cool During the Day:

Free Transportation:
VIA Metropolitan Transit is offering free transportation to daytime cooling locations and overnight resilience hubs. Call 3-1-1 / 210-207-6000 for assistance.

Following last night’s storms, the Spurs Impact Center will be open as a cooling station on Saturday, Aug 29, from 12–7 p.m.

The center will offer indoor A/C, restrooms, Wi-Fi and water for community members who need a cool place to go. No pets, please.

Today we toured the UTSA Athletics Roadrunner Athletics Center of Excellence (RACE) with Dr. Lisa Campos and saw firsthand how this incredible facility supports Roadrunner student-athletes both on and off the field.

From training to recovery and academic support, facilities like RACE play an important role in helping UTSA - The University of Texas at San Antonio and UTSA Football recruit and develop top talent as it continues competing alongside universities with long-established athletics programs.

District 8 is proud to have UT San Antonio right here in our community and to support the Roadrunners as they continue to soar. Birds Up! 🤙

I stopped by the temporary home of the Cody Branch Library at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Juspreet Kaur, District 8’s appointee and Chair of the San Antonio Public Library Board of Trustees, to thank church leadership for welcoming our library and community into their space.

While Cody Branch undergoes necessary HVAC improvements, our residents deserve uninterrupted access to the library services and resources they rely on. I’m grateful to Our Savior Lutheran Church and the San Antonio Public Library for coming together to keep our community connected.

The temporary location at 11503 Vance Jackson Rd. is open Tuesdays from 12–8 p.m. and Wednesdays–Saturdays from 10 a.m.–6 p.m.

I was excited to join Six Flags Fiesta Texas for the groundbreaking of Werewolf Gorge, a major new investment right here in District 8! 🎢

Fiesta Texas has been an important part of San Antonio’s tourism economy for decades, and I’m proud to see them continue investing in our community. Strong partnerships with our business community help create opportunities, attract visitors, and showcase everything San Antonio has to offer.

Congratulations to the entire team bringing Werewolf Gorge to life. I can’t wait to see it open in 2027!

🎒📚 After our District 8 Back-to-School Bash, we were grateful to have additional backpacks and school supplies to share with even more students across our community.

Our team delivered the remaining backpacks to all of our Title I schools in District 8, including Howsman Elementary, Carnahan Elementary, Mead Elementary, McDermott Elementary, Boone Elementary, and Hobby Middle School, as well as the Center for Refugee Services. We’re proud to help make sure these supplies continue reaching students and families who can put them to good use as the school year gets underway!

Yesterday, I joined my colleagues for a special City Council session on the future of data centers in San Antonio.

Growth and innovation are important, but so are our water, energy, neighborhoods, and quality of life. I supported Councilmember Galvan’s CCR to continue this important policy discussion, and I later joined Councilmembers Galvan and Castillo in signing a three-signature memo requesting consideration of a temporary moratorium on new data center development.

As this conversation moves forward, I’ll continue working toward a balanced approach that protects our community, uses our resources responsibly, and keeps residents’ voices at the center of these decisions.
