Thank you to Murthy Matamalla and the Hindu Temple of San Antonio for serving as the invocator at this weekโ€™s City Council meeting.

As we navigate the opportunities and challenges facing our city, his message underscored the importance of respecting the dignity of every person and working together to build a stronger, more inclusive San Antonio. I'm grateful to him for helping us begin our discussions with reflection, gratitude, and a shared commitment to prosperity for all residents.

The prayer he ended with reminds us that peace is the ultimate goal.

"Om Shanti, Shanti, Shanti. Peace within us, peace among us, and peace throughout the world." ๐Ÿ’œ

Music to Business returns this summer, bringing together neighborhood businesses and local musicians for live performances across District 1. Shoutout , our former D1 team member who came up with the idea!

Participating businesses will host artists every weekend (funded by our office) through August 8, creating more opportunities to support local entrepreneurs, enjoy live music, and discover new neighborhood favorites.

Check out this transformation at 224 W. Evergreen, a former Commonwealth Coffee location. This property became a major eyesore, accumulating trash and creating safety concerns, as the site was not cleaned after being demolished in November. Ensuring outside contractors meet their obligations takes time, but City partners and neighbors stepped in to resolve the issue.

A huge thank you to the Development Services Department (DSD) for tracking down the contractor to get this cleared, District 1 staff member Allison for staying on top of this case, and to District 1 resident Peter, whose detailed notes helped us push this forward. We appreciate your patience and incredible partnership!

Great visit to the Culinary Institute of America as the campus continues to expand. As an advocate for small businesses and workforce development, Iโ€™m excited to see a District 1 project that supports both.

This expansion will create more educational opportunities, strengthen our local economy, and provide good-paying careers for skilled trades professionals across our city. Associated Builders and Contractors of South Texas, which is leading the project, emphasizes merit-based pay, workforce training, and employee benefits that help workers build long-term careers and achieve a strong middle-class quality of life.

The Culinary Institute of Americaโ€™s continued growth is a win for students, workers, local businesses, and the future of our city.

This is whatโ€™s possible when a community comes together to advocate for park improvements. ๐Ÿถ

A special thank you to the Beacon Hill Area Neighborhood Association, Parks & Recreation Department, Public Works Department, and residents, especially Jerry Lockey, for helping bring the new Beacon Hill Dog Park to life. Now officially open, the space is ready for neighborhood dogs to run, play, and make new friends! ๐Ÿพ

Funded through the voter-approved bond program, this project demonstrates how residents with a vision for their neighborhood can work together to create meaningful public spaces. The Beacon Hill Dog Park provides a dedicated place for dogs to run and play while giving neighbors another opportunity to connect, gather, and strengthen community ties.

Today, I was honored to stand with members of our LGBTQIA+ community to celebrate the Pride flag being flown at City Hall. It is a symbol of visibility, inclusion, and our ongoing commitment to ensuring everyone can live authentically and with dignity. ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€โšง๏ธ

Since being elected, we've established the Pride Cultural Heritage District, installed the new trans flag sidewalks, and just filed the CCR for a memorial designation for transgender trailblazer Erika Andrews. These are meaningful steps toward recognizing, celebrating, and preserving our community's history and contributions.

Be on the lookout for a mural survey coming your way. We want your input on the public art that reflects our shared story.

Happy Pride Month! โค๏ธ๐Ÿงก๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’œ๐ŸคŽ๐Ÿ–ค

Thank you to SA Youth for inviting me to visit and see the many ways this nonprofit is supporting young adults as they overcome barriers to earning their diploma. It was inspiring to learn more about the impact your programs are making in the lives of young people and families who need that support most. As someone who deeply believes in the power of education, I was impressed with the support they provide students through the 4-month program and the safe space they create for their students.
