“The City of San Antonio MLK Commission mourns the passing of our beloved Chair of the Commemorative Program, Mia Morris.

Mia passed away on Saturday after a courageous battle with diabetes. Her contributions to our commission and community were truly unmatched. Thoughtful, consistent, deliberate, and always communicative, Mia brought dedication and integrity to everything she did. She approached her role with passion and purpose, ensuring our commemorative program was a vibrant celebration of community, local artists, and local talent.

Mia’s leadership and vision made a lasting impact, and she will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of working with her. We extend our deepest condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time.

Her legacy of fostering community, creativity, and unity will continue to inspire us. We are thankful for her unwavering commitment and the beautiful memories she leaves behind.

Rest in peace, Mia. Your spirit and contributions will forever be part of our community’s heart.”

The San Antonio MLK Commission joins the nation in mourning Rev. Jesse Jackson. He carried forward Dr. King’s legacy and never stopped fighting for social and racial justice. We’re grateful for his lifetime of faith-driven leadership and his unwavering commitment to dignity for working people. We’ll honor his legacy by keeping the work moving forward.

Coco Jones just took Lift Every Voice and Sing to the biggest stage in sports tonight. We are proud that San Antonio got to experience her up close as the headline performance at our MLK March. This is what it looks like when culture, history, and community meet.

Always looking for meaningful ways to give back, Spurs forward Harrison Barnes and his wife, Brittany, surprised San Antonio's MLK Commission with a $50,000 gift to its scholarship program.

The gift comes nearly one year after the couple donated $250,000 to the AlamoPROMISE program. bit.ly/4r6ioHp
