This prolonged period of dry conditions combined with breezy winds has resulted in an increased risk for fires to become uncontrollable should a fire start. High temperatures today will be 10 to 15 degrees above normal, in the mid 90s to near 105. A Heat Advisory is in effect for the Big Country from 1 PM through 8 PM today. Although an isolated shower or thunderstorm is possible across the northwest Hill Country this afternoon, mainly dry conditions will prevail.

Hot and dry conditions will persist this weekend. Highs will top out around 101-105° each afternoon. Unfortunately, this will put us near record highs for both Abilene and San Angelo. Take it easy and be sure to hydrate if you'll be outside this weekend!

6:25 PM Radar Update: Showers and thunderstorms are developing across the Concho Valley, northwest Hill Country, and Heartland as an outflow boundary tracks south. Expect brief heavy rain, dangerous lightning, and gusty winds with any storms that develop.

**TIME SENSITIVE POST** 3 PM RADAR Update: A line of scattered showers and thunderstorms is moving south through the Big Country this afternoon. The main concerns with these storms will be gusty winds and locally heavy rainfall leading to localized flooding. In addition, cloud to ground lightning will accompany all of this activity, and may result in fire starts.

It may sound hard to believe but we actually have some showers and thunderstorms in the forecast today. Not everyone will see rain, in fact, most will not, but the best chances are in the Big Country. Any storms that develop could produce gusty winds and heavy downpours that could result in local flooding concerns.
