Subject: Evacuation Warning for the Cosgrove Creek area in Valley Springs/La Contenta
Due to rising water levels around the Cosgrove Creek in the Valley Springs and La Contenta areas of the County the Calaveras County Sheriff's Office in cooperation with Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services and Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District have issued an evacuation warning.
Forecasts from the National Weather Service show continued rainfall (atmospheric river) throughout the overnight hours. Due to the forecast and current conditions out of an abundance of caution we ask the residents in the effected areas to prepare for the potential of evacuation.
At this time, we are not issuing an evacuation order, however, we encourage anyone that has mobility concerns or requires additional care services to evacuate early. As always, if you
feel unsafe, please evacuate immediately.
The Calaveras County Office of Emergency Services has prepositioned necessary equipment and supplies for an evacuation shelter and notified the American Red Cross. At this time, we have prepositioned equipment and supplies if you are evacuating prior to any evacuation orders and need sheltering, please contact the Director of Emergency Services at (209) 286-9087.
If the evacuation warning is upgraded and an evacuation order is issued there will be a shelter opened immediately for all evacuees at the Jenny Lind Veteran's Memorial Hall at 300 W Daphne Street, Valley Springs, CA 95252.
Again, at this time there is not a shelter opened, however, if you choose to evacuate early and need sheltering please contact the Office of Emergency Services at (209) 286-9087.
