A message from the Chief
Once again social media has been brought to our attention instead of reporting complaints the proper way. I try my best to be as transparent as I can be to the public, so I will do what I can to address some of your concerns.
The first is an incident that happened at a local business. This is an open case so there are some things that can not be made public at this time. The incident involved three individuals that worked at a local business and turned in to a physical altercation. Nobody was arrested due to lack of evidence. However, after reviewing the video footage the next day from the business it showed three employees voluntarily going to the parking lot for a two on one fight. Social media is stating the single subject involved in the fight was going to come back with a firearm. That was not reported to the officers when they arrived. However if someone wants to file a complaint that did hear it they need to do so.
Update: a subject has stated they heard the threat involving a firearm, if the threat was made directly to them and they want to pursue charges then they need to come to the Samson Police Department to file a report.
Secondly, about drug deals being taken place. We do our best to get drugs off the street, however it will unfortunately be a constant war. A picture was taken of two individuals at the ice house that appeared to make some kind of exchange. Instead of calling and reporting the suspicious circumstance it was decided to be posted on social media. We can not just go and violate rights and search every person we see on the street without their permission. That’s why we run investigations.
The last thing I will say is this, our department is working hard for our citizens. Our reports show it. I have an open door policy and I am here for each and every citizen to listen to your complaints.
I love Samson, I love working here and I enjoy talking to the citizens, to hear your complaints and to come up with ideas to make things better for you within the scope of my power. However, in the last two months all I’ve read and heard was Samson coming together and make things better. Now, all I see is individuals doing what they can to tear our town apart on social media with hate and internet law instead of Alabama law. Please stop this and help us make it a great town.
Thank you,
Chief Stokes, Wesley
