Did you know Sammamish’s parks have stories as rich as their landscapes? In our Sammamish Parks 101 series, we explore the history, growth, and hidden gems of our local parks—while revisiting some fun photos along the way.

Parks 101 is your guide to discovering (and rediscovering) the spaces that make Sammamish special. Let’s talk about Pine Lake Park!

Pine Lake Park was originally a private resort in the 1910s. The resort was purchased in 1932 and renamed French's LaPine Resort but was more commonly known as Pine Lake Resort. The resort featured it featured cabins, fishing, and a dance hall. King County purchased the property for a public park in the mid-1960s, and then it was transferred to the City of Sammamish when the city incorporated in 1999.

Lifeguards will start soon with coverage from June 21 to Aug. 24 from 12 p.m. – 7 p.m. We also have a life jacket loaner program at Pine Lake Park to help people stay safe. Fishing is allowed according to the Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife with a license starting the fourth Saturday in April through Oct. 31 (these dates can vary by year). Final reminder to drop off fairy houses for our fairy house trail starting June 1. Deadline to submit is June 15!

The Sammamish Arts Commission is looking for imaginative participants to contribute to this year’s Fairy House Trail at Big Rock Park South!

Fairy Houses will be on display mid-June — visible from the trail only at Big Rock Park South, so please stay on the path and don’t touch the houses.

We had a blast at our Big Rigs on the Plaza event. A little possible wet weather never stopped us.

Let’s talk about the Sammamish Commons!

This 25-acre park is located in the middle of Sammamish with an upper and lower section connected by an accessible trail. We opened our first community garden in the lower section of this park in 2013. Plots are available for lease to community residents for $75 per year.

The Sammamish Commons also hosts our Native Plan Garden. In 2008, Linda Hines, led a partnership with the City, the Washington Native Plant Society, and the Sammamish Garden Club to transform 20,000 square feet in Lower Sammamish Commons into a native plant sanctuary for public education.

Most of the community might be familiar with this space because we host our annual 4th on the Plateau fireworks show here as well as our Rigapalooza (now called Big Rigs on the Plaza) event.

This park offers:
a playground 🛝
restrooms 🚻
trails 🚶‍♀️
skate park 🛹
basketball court 🏀
spray park 💧
reservable picnic shelter 🧺
