Saltillo Borough is currently pursuing grant opportunities that would allow for some much-needed updates to be made to Saltillo Park.

Today, Coach 8 rolled on its own wheels for the first time in four years, making a brief journey from the Locomotive Shop to the Car Shop where it will continue to undergo heavy repair and restoration work.

In 2020, this cherished piece of the EBT's historic coach fleet was placed in the Locomotive Shop to allow crews to assess what repairs would be necessary for it to return to operation. As expected, the coach is very worn from its service in the railroad's common-carrier era and its use on excursion trains during the tourist era. As the list of repairs continues to grow, it has become clear that it needs a comprehensive restoration before it is placed back in service.

This winter, we completed one of those projects which allowed the car to be safely repositioned to the Car Shop where crews will continue to make progress as time and resources allow. The EBT's other wooden coaches are all in various stages of restoration, including Combine 14 which is coming along very well under the care of the Friends of the East Broad Top in the Paint Shop. Be sure to follow their social media for updates on that project!

As with any equipment restoration, we will never estimate a date for this work to be completed. Today's move may have been short, but it certainly signifies our goal to see these iconic cars ride the rails once again!
