Today is Labor Day, and that is not an accident.

The work of LGBTQ equality has always been connected to the dignity and security of work. Some of our earliest allies were labor unions because losing a job was often one of the first consequences someone faced when they were outed.

Utah has made meaningful progress, but a law is a floor, not a finish line. Our protections are only as secure as the people we elect to uphold and strengthen them.
Today, Equality Utah PAC is proud to announce our 39 endorsed candidates for the 2026 election.

Some have stood with our community for years. Others are new to our slate and have been carefully vetted by the PAC Board. We believe each is prepared to help protect our families, our jobs, our healthcare, and our children’s education.

Today, we join so many around the world in mourning the loss of Gloria Steinem—a trailblazing writer, activist, and one of the defining voices for equality of our time.

Gloria passed away this week at the age of 92, leaving behind a legacy that transformed generations of advocates.

In 2016, we had the extraordinary honor of welcoming Gloria to the Equality Utah Allies Gala. Ten years later, people still tell us it was one of the most inspiring evenings in our organization’s history. (We’re attaching a few clips here.)

Gloria reminded us that progress is never inevitable—it is built by ordinary people who choose to show up, speak out, and stand together.

That message has guided Equality Utah for more than 25 years, and it continues to inspire our work today.

Thank you, Gloria, for showing us what courageous leadership looks like and for reminding us that hope is something we create together.

We’re grateful we had the chance to learn from you.

Essie shares a little bit about what makes our annual Allies event different this year. 🎉

“Allies: Take Flight” is an epic party AND our major fundraiser. Every ticket fuels advocacy and actionable work for equal rights in Utah… and the night is filled with mingling, dancing, new and old connections that are incomparable, laughter, good conversation, delicious drinks and snacks, and more!

We want (need) you there! If you’re part of Utah’s LGBTQ community or an ally… if you care about equal rights… or if you’re curious and interested in learning more… Come to the Allies Celebration.

Today, we mourn the loss of Carol Lynn Pearson—a poet, playwright, truth-teller, and one of the most courageous voices our community has ever known.

Long before it was safe or popular, Carol Lynn used her words to expand hearts, challenge institutions, and remind LGBTQ people that they were worthy of love exactly as they are. She helped countless families choose compassion over fear and gave hope to generations searching for belonging.

In 2019, Equality Utah was honored to recognize Carol Lynn with our Impact Award. The tribute we shared then remains as true today as it was that night. We invite you to watch it again and celebrate the extraordinary legacy she leaves behind.

At the end of her memoir, Carol thanked her readers for traveling:
"the long road with me, observing one woman navigating her life as a Latter-day Saint, as a feminist, as an activist for LGBT causes, as a mother, a friend, a seeker of God, a discoverer of godliness, a woman of laughter, a woman of grief, a celebrator of light."

What a beautiful life. What an extraordinary legacy.

Thank you, Carol Lynn. We will carry your light forward.
