Gilgal Sculpture Garden

Gilgal Sculpture Garden Gilgal Sculpture Garden is a unique garden of sculptures & engravings in a small Salt Lake City park. The website of our organization is www.gilgalgarden.org.

Our Mission Statement: Friends of Gilgal Garden is organized as a nonprofit, 501c3 to raise funds to restore to their original condition, preserve, protect, and maintain the artifacts, sculptures, engraved stones, arrangements, facilities, and land known as Gilgal Garden in Salt Lake City, Utah, as a cultural treasurer for the benefit and perpetual enjoyment of the public. We raise funds for the r

estoration of the stonework, and to keep the gardens well-maintained. We work with Salt Lake City Public Lands to manage the park for the enjoyment of all, and to protect the park and educate the public with signage and walking tour brochures explaining the vision of the sculptures creator Thomas Battersby Child Jr. Our charity is currently using grant funds to create a permanent preservation easement on the garden, so it can never be sold or developed. We are using grant funds and public donations to repair stonework that has been damaged due to weather erosion and to damage by park visitors. We will expand our efforts to repair and restore the sculptures as grants and donations allow.

Some of you may know this face, it is Alice Telford. She has done many interesting things in her life, including being the realtor for the house I have lived in for 50 years. She started the Little Red Riding Hood bike ride, and recently turned 100 years young! She had not seen Gilgal Sculpture Garden, so I gave her a tour, along with Marilyn Bown and Joel Bown. The art, and the flowers were in their glory, a good tiime was had by all.

The leaves are falling at Gilgal, come and take a look before they are all gone. Many photos of the glorious flowers were taken in the garden this summer that never got posted. Joseph Smith is here, always keeping watch.

We always have visitors from various places at Gilgal, but we don't have very many people who come to paint pictures of the garden. This weekend we were lucky to have two such gentlemen!

Gilgal Sculpture Garden has received the distinction of being listed as a visionary art environment. The only one in the state and part of the handful in the country.

Friends of Gilgal Garden is charged with keeping Gilgal Sculpture Garden just as it was when Thomas Child was alive. If you come at the right time, you might see some of the work being done. We have replaced several missing stones this summer and washed the spire. We had repaired the spire recently, and the new aggregate was a bit lighter than the original which had been there for many years. We also repainted the pole that holds the large birdhouse on the east side of the garden by the root cellar. There is always something to be worked on.
