This past Saturday, the first Utah Power and Purpose Institute, which focused on building collective power in a moment when our rights and freedoms are under attack, was a hit!

This morning, ACLU National appeared before the U.S. Supreme Court to defend the core American promise of birthright citizenship. 

This case affects all of us and hits close to home as one the lead plaintiffs is a Utahn. We are grateful for their bravery and willingness to defend birthright citizenship. 

There will be no decision made today and no immediate practical effect for immigrants or anyone with birthright citizenship until the Supreme Court issues a decision.

ACLU national is arguing at the Supreme Court on April 1, on behalf of all children who would be subject to President Trump’s order to restrict birthright citizenship. Birthright citizenship is a right enshrined in the 14th Amendment—and no president has the power to override the Constitution just because they want to.
