The Utah Highway Patrol's mission is to provide professional police and traffic services, and to protect the constitutional rights of all people in Utah. This is accomplished by focusing on ten areas of emphasis:

Public Service
Members of the Utah Highway Patrol will actively look for opportunities to be of service to the public and will always do more than is expected to be helpful. Impaired Dri

Removing impaired drivers from Utah’s highways is the Utah Highway Patrol’s number one priority. Every effort will be made to educate the public regarding the hazards associated with driving while impaired. Occupant Restraint Usage
The Utah Highway Patrol, in cooperation with community groups and other public safety agencies, will increase their educational and enforcement efforts to meet or exceed the National goal of 85 percent seatbelt and child seat usage by the year 2000 and 90 percent by 2005. Safety Education
The Utah Highway Patrol will make safety education a higher organizational priority and will devote more resources to this program. Local Law Enforcement Support
It is our desire to become a more valuable resource to agencies within our state. Members of the Utah Highway Patrol will actively look for opportunities to support and assist allied public safety agencies. Criminal Interdiction
Utah Highway Patrol troopers will continue to aggressively identify and apprehend criminal law violators and will honor and protect people’s constitutional rights during that process. Community Policing
The challenges facing our state now and in the future will be most effectively addressed by establishing a partnership with the community. All members of the Utah Highway Patrol will become actively involved with the community to solve mutual problems and to respond to the challenges that face us. Commercial Vehicle Safety
The Utah Highway Patrol will work cooperatively with the commercial vehicle industry and citizen groups in an effort to enhance highway safety through the implementation of innovative educational and enforcement programs. Human Resource Development
People are the Utah Highway Patrol’s most valuable resource. Therefore, emphasis will be placed on providing enhanced training, encouraging the pursuit of higher education, and developing leaders for the future. Accident Investigation & Reconstruction
The Utah Highway Patrol will continue to provide troopers with the best training available so they are capable of conducting thorough and professional motor vehicle crash investigations and reconstructions. Every effort will be made to acquire and implement new technologies that aid in the collection and documentation of evidence and the completion of professional investigations.

Today, we remember and honor Trooper Daniel W. Harris, who made the ultimate sacrifice for our state on August 25, 1982.

A lawman through and through, Trooper Harris was born in Cedar City and built a distinguished career serving as a police officer in Phoenix, the Chief of Police in Parowan City, and an Iron County deputy before finding his true calling with the Utah Highway Patrol in 1979. While he excelled in Field Operations, Internal Affairs, and Executive Protection, his greatest passion was the Motorcycle Squad. Known fondly by his family as the "happy motor officer with bugs on his teeth," he loved the freedom of the ride almost as much as the communities he served.

On the evening of August 25, 1982, Trooper Harris was conducting speed enforcement on Interstate 80 in Parley’s Canyon. After observing a speeding Corvette, he initiated a pursuit on his Kawasaki motorcycle. While navigating the canyon's dangerous, winding curves, he tragically failed to negotiate a turn and struck an embankment, passing away at the scene. He was just 33 years old and left behind his wife and four young children.

On August 11th on I-15 mp 126, heavy rain and excessive speeds caused several crashes.

While UHP Troopers, a Beaver County Sheriff's Deputy, and medical personnel were actively working on a rollover crash, a second vehicle slammed into the UHP and Sheriff's patrol cars. Just moments later, a third vehicle rolled in the southbound lanes.

​While the Deputy sustained minor injuries and the Trooper was uninjured, several other individuals involved were hurt and transported to a nearby hospital.

​⚠️ Speed limits are for ideal conditions.

​When it rains, SLOW DOWN.

​When you see flashing lights, SLOW DOWN & MOVE OVER.

To honor the fallen helicopter crew fighting the Widemouth 2 Fire near Richfield, Utah law enforcement and fire departments will be escorting our fallen heroes.

Please expect slow downs on I-70 westbound to I-15 northbound from Cove Fort to the Office of the Medical Examiner in Taylorsville. Expect delays in these areas for the next few hours.
