Yes, that green color is paint.

When he arrived at Salt Lake County Animal Services, our team immediately went to work making sure he was safe, comfortable, and getting the care he needed. While we were able to remove much of the paint and marker, the most important thing was reducing his stress and setting him up for success.

That’s why he’s now heading to a foster home, where he can relax, continue his recovery, and spend time with other kittens his age.

Situations like this are a reminder that if you ever come across an animal that may need help, our team is here as a resource. Whether an animal is injured, abandoned, neglected, or simply in need of assistance, Salt Lake County Animal Services is committed to helping animals get the care and support they deserve.

This little guy’s next chapter is already looking much brighter. 💚🐾

Meet Dexter. 💙

Dexter is a 2-year-old neutered male Lynx Point cat who has been waiting at Salt Lake County Animal Services for over 50 days.

Before arriving at the shelter, Dexter was abandoned at a hotel by his owner. Since then, he’s been trying to navigate a world that suddenly became very uncertain.

Today, Dexter is still waiting.

Dexter isn’t the kind of cat who will immediately seek out attention or enjoy being handled. After everything he’s been through, trust doesn’t come easily. But with patience, understanding, and time, there’s every reason to believe he could form a strong bond with the right person.

Not every cat needs constant affection. Some just need someone willing to let them heal at their own pace.

Dexter is available for both adoption and fostering. If you can offer a quiet home and a little patience, Dexter just might be your perfect match.

Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming a local youth group to Salt Lake County Animal Services as part of our Humane Education program.

We loved having them spend time at the shelter and learn more about the work we do for animals in our community. The group also helped create enrichment items for both our dogs and cats, providing extra fun and mental stimulation for the animals in our care.

Thank you to this wonderful group for your kindness, enthusiasm, and hard work. The enrichment you created will help keep our shelter pets engaged, happy, and enriched while they wait for their forever homes. 🐾

Meet M***a 🐾

M***a is a 9-month-old Husky mix with a playful spirit, a curious mind, and so much love to give. This beautiful girl is always ready for her next adventure, whether that means exploring the yard, going for a walk, or playing with her favorite toys.

Like many young Huskies, M***a is intelligent, energetic, and eager to learn. She would thrive with an active family that can provide plenty of exercise, enrichment, and companionship. The best part? M***a gets along well with other dogs and would love a canine friend to share her adventures with.

After spending time in the shelter since May 28, she’s more than ready to find a family of her own.
