I’ve heard Salt Lakers express a desire to support the crews working the Bonneville Fire. We inquired and they appreciate the community’s support, but they don’t have any needs right now. They appreciate all the signs of encouragement they’ve seen throughout our community, including thank you notes.

However, our fellow Utahns in Eureka and near Beaver have been less fortunate this week as they had to evacuate their homes amid devastating wildfires. The Red Cross of Central and Southern Utah is helping those impacted families. For those who would like to support these efforts, I wanted to share this resource where Salt Lakers can donate.

🔥 As we continue to respond to fires across the state, we're reminding everyone of ways they can stay safe during wildfire season.

One of the most important steps you can take is creating an evacuation plan before an emergency happens. Know multiple routes out of your neighborhood, identify a safe meeting place, and make sure every member of your household understands the plan.

Help us continue providing relief and support to communities impacted by disasters. ❤️ Support our mission at RedCross.org/UtahGives.

Happy Juneteenth, Salt Lake City! It's a day of memory, resilience, and community. It's a reminder that progress is made when people refuse to let freedom remain unfinished. It requires us to stand up for our values even when those values are challenged. Especially when they're challenged. So that every day, Salt Lakers become a little more free than we were the day before.

This was a tough budget year where we focused on core services, and I appreciate the Salt Lake City Council's diligence to adopt a balanced FY2027 budget that prioritizes the highest public needs and reflects our community values. My administration will continue to pursue additional, diversified revenue streams in the coming year to reduce burdens directly carried by our city residents.

Thank you HRC Utah for your advocacy. Every gardener knows that growth is not guaranteed. Many of our communities know what it feels like to weather a storm. And we've seen LGBTQ+ people targeted again and again. When progress is damaged, we don't give up. We repair, replant, grow new branches, and keep tending the ground beneath our feet. Equality does not bloom by accident.

A garden is not beautiful because everything in it is the same. It is beautiful because of its variety and because of the unexpected colors. Because of the plants that climb, the flowers that return, the roots we cannot see, and the sunshine that makes room for all of it to grow.

It was an honor to join you this past weekend and humbling to receive your Leadership Award.

Many hands raised our Sego Celebration Flag at City Hall today ahead of Juneteenth. Together. The ideals it represents are carried by our Black community, present and past. We stood together and raised a beautiful flag, but we're not done. We have a federal holiday on June 19. The City has adopted ordinances. But we're not done. We can learn more from you and how the City can do better. Keep building with us.

Thank you, Mrs. Betty Sawyer, Dr. Sidni Shorter, Ms. Emma Houston, Charles McKinney, Dr. Oscar Moses, the Utah Black Chamber, and every community member and local business who made today possible.
