🎉Congratulations to the West Virginia Department of Health and EMSC State Partnership Program for launching a Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Recognition Program in your state!

The West Virginia Department of Health’s Office of Emergency Medical Services has achieved the Health Resources & Service Administration's (HRSA) National Performance Measure criteria for Emergency Medical Services for Children, thereby establishing a state Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Recognition Program and increasing vital awareness around appropriate pediatric emergency treatment.

“Our children are our most vulnerable population and establishing this program ensures they are receiving the best care possible in the moments that matter the most,” shared Secretary of Health Dr. Arvin Singh. “Pivotal moves are being made across the Department of Health to transform healthcare in our state, and this is another area where we are placing immense focus. I am extremely proud of our Office of Emergency Medical Services and our Always Ready for Kids Program for their continued dedication to this cause and to pediatric care.”

Through the establishment of the Prehospital Pediatric Readiness Program, West Virginia is ensuring that responders remain educated, equipped, and prepared to treat pediatric patients. Program recognition also requires the designation of a Pediatric Emergency Care Coordinator, a disaster plan that addresses the needs of children, and at least one formally recognized EMS agency.

“Pediatric readiness is a community effort,” added EMS for Children Coordinator Erin Timbrook. “When EMS, healthcare providers, families, schools, and community partners work together, we create a stronger system that is prepared to recognize and respond to the unique needs of children. Every connection we make today helps ensure that children receive the right care when they need it most.”

With a Hospital Pediatric Readiness Program already in place, West Virginia has become the eighth state in the nation to establish both programs. Learn more at Pediatric Readiness State Recognition Programs.
