This Memorial Day, we pause to honor the fallen. The men and women who gave everything in service to this nation, both in war and in peace.

Their sacrifice is not forgotten. Their legacy lives in every uniform worn, every mission answered, and every freedom defended.

The water was cold, the current unpredictable, and the task was simple: get your team to the other side. For Pfc. Aiden Chilson, a combat medic with the 852nd Medical Detachment, it was the hardest thing he did all week โ€” and exactly what he needed.

โ€œIโ€™ve never been strong around the water,โ€ Chilson said. โ€œBut it was very eye-opening how, as a team, you can kind of help cover some of those weaknesses.โ€

Chilson was one of many soldiers from the 852nd who spent the week at Fairchild Air Force Base pushing through an intensive pre-deployment training program designed to prepare the unit for an upcoming overseas deployment. The schedule went well beyond bandages and triage; it included SERE instruction, combatives, water egress, aircraft evacuation drills, and cultural familiarization for the region theyโ€™ll soon call home.

John Quinn, 68Z (Chief Medical NCO), assigned to the 7450th Medical Operations Readiness Unit (ARMEDCOM); and Staff Sgt. The Soldiers successfully completed rigorous EFMB testing process, which evaluates medical proficiency, physical fitness and tactical combat skills under demanding conditions. The EFMB is one of the Armyโ€™s most challenging and prestigious medical badges to earn, recognizing excellence and readiness among Army medical personnel.

Soldiers from the 852nd Medical Detachment coordinated with local recruiters during Armed Forces Trades Day on May 11 at the HUB Sports Center in Liberty Lake, Washington to engage with high school students about Army medicine and STEM-related career opportunities.

Students learned how science, technology, engineering and mathematics concepts support the Army medical mission and contribute to patient care, field operations and medical readiness across the force.
