The Wasatch Front Regional Council (WFRC) is an association of governments comprised of elected officials from Salt Lake, Davis, Weber, Morgan, Box Elder, and Tooele counties. Our region is among the fastest growing areas in the United States. The way we grow will largely determine the quality of life for generations to come. Through the WFRC, local governments and community members from Salt Lake

, Davis, Weber, Morgan, Box Elder, and Tooele counties come together to plan for our future. The Wasatch Choice 2050 is the region's "vision" for growth and development. The adopted 2015 - 2040 Regional Transportation Plan will serve the region's transportation needs over the next 25 years.

Transportation does not stop at city limits — and neither do we.

WFRC helps 76 communities across the Wasatch Front work together to plan, prioritize, and invest federal transportation dollars where they can make the biggest difference.

Better planning. Better projects. Stronger communities.

It’s National Bike Month, and for this week’s , we’re highlighting the Utah Bikeways Map! 🚲

A few things that make this map especially useful:

1️⃣ Explore all kinds of bikeways — paved trails and on-street bike lanes, etc. — across the state.
2️⃣ View routes by comfort level using “Traffic Stress” ratings.
3️⃣ Help keep the map current by leaving comments directly on the map.
4️⃣ Zoom into your community, and the map automatically creates a custom URL you can easily share or embed on your own website.

WFRC partners with local cities and counties to help maintain and improve the map so residents can better explore their communities by bike.

One way WFRC shares expertise and collaborates with partners is by presenting at local conferences — and our team was well represented at this year’s Utah Geographic Information Council (UGIC) Conference! 👏

Sarah Lawless won the Iron Cartographer competition for the second year in a row after creating a map of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument in just two hours, and Josh Reynolds shared WFRC’s Household and Job Forecast along with interactive web maps supporting the data.

From forecasting to mapping tools, this work supports informed transportation and land use planning across Utah.

WFRC staff, in partnership with Bike Utah, City of North Salt Lake, Davis County, Cottonwood Heights City, GREENbike Utah, Midvale City, Parametrix, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah Transit Authority, Utah DOT, West Jordan, West Valley City, Denver Regional Council of Governments, Town of Superior, Colorado, and the City of Boulder Colorado, recently participated in a peer tour of Boulder and Superior.

The goal of the tour was to provide inspiration and practical solutions on the integration of land use and transportation for our communities as they grow. Opportunities like this allow our team and partners to see innovative approaches firsthand and bring back ideas that support thoughtful growth, improved safety, and enhanced connectivity throughout the Wasatch Front.

We extend our gratitude to the local officials and staff, transportation partners, and all participants who made this experience a success.

The Utah Association of Counties wrapped up another great Legislative Management Conference this week in St. George! It was a valuable opportunity to connect with county leaders, legislators, and elected officials statewide to engage in thoughtful dialogue around governance, leadership, and legislative priorities.

Conversations like these help keep us all moving in the same direction as we plan for strong, connected communities across the Wasatch Front and all of Utah.

After more than two decades of planning, the Midvalley Express BRT is here — or MVX for short. Congratulations to Utah Transit Authority - UTA on this major milestone!

Connecting Murray City, Taylorsville City, and West Valley City, this all-electric route expands access to jobs, education, and opportunity across the region. WFRC is proud to have supported the project from its early vision in the 2007 Regional Transportation Plan to today — helping program over $10M in federal funding to bring it to life.
