TGIF, everyone! Courage doesn’t always look loud or bold—it can be the quiet choice to get up and keep going, even when the day has worn you down. Mary Anne Radmacher reminds us that courage is often as simple as deciding to try again tomorrow.

As we head into the weekend, think about the moments when your quiet persistence has carried you through. How can you give yourself credit for the small but brave choices you make each day? And where might a gentle “I’ll try again tomorrow” be enough?

Today is World Su***de Prevention Day.

It’s a reminder that hope and help are always within reach. Every conversation matters, every act of kindness counts, and every person’s life has value.

If you or someone you know is struggling, you don’t have to face it alone. Call or text 988 to connect with the Su***de & Crisis Lifeline for free, confidential support—24/7.

Together, we can break the silence, reduce the stigma, and remind one another: You are not alone.

Civil Rights Spotlight: Health Services

Did you know? In Maryland, health care providers must give full and equal access to care for all patients. That can include:

✔️ Service animals in the exam room
✔️ Wheelchair-accessible exam rooms, bathrooms, and imaging machines
✔️ Free accessible prescription labels for patients who are blind or have low vision
✔️ Sign language interpreters for non-emergency appointments

Everyone deserves care without barriers. Let’s keep building a community where health care is truly accessible to all.

TGIF, everyone! Change is something we can’t avoid, especially now, when funding cuts and restrictive measures threaten programs that support our most vulnerable neighbors. Jimmy Carter’s words remind us that while times may shift, our core values—fairness, dignity, and care for one another—must remain constant.

As we head into the weekend, how do we stay rooted in our principles when the world around us feels uncertain? What unchanging values can you hold onto as a guide through changing times?

💡 Civil Rights Spotlight

Did you know? In Maryland, people with disabilities are legally protected from discrimination in public spaces—like restaurants, medical offices, theaters, and more.

That means:
✔️ You can’t be denied service for having a disability or service animal.
✔️ Spaces must allow for wheelchair access.
✔️ You can’t be refused entry based on how you move or communicate.
✔️ Services must be equal for everyone.

Equal access isn’t just the law—it’s the right thing to do. Let’s make our communities welcoming for ALL of us.

We made a clerical error in our work anniversary post this week.

Ms. Harriett Bell-Hammond, a teacher at our Grasonville Early Head Start, was mistakenly identified as celebrating her 10th anniversary working at SHORE UP. In fact, it will be her 27th year working for us.

The tenth anniversary honor belonged to Ms. Joyce Farrare, who heads up our Foster Grandparent program. Congratulations, Joyce!

We apologize for the mix-up.

Our Head Start and Early Head Start centers are officially open! As children return to classrooms, please remember to drive safely around buses. Never pass a school bus when its lights are flashing—let’s work together to keep our kids safe.

September is Sickle Cell Disease Awareness Month. This is a time to shine a light on the strength and resilience of those living with sickle cell, while raising awareness about the urgent need for better treatment, research, and support.

Sickle cell disease affects millions of people worldwide, yet it often doesn’t get the attention it deserves. By learning, sharing, and advocating, we can help ensure that individuals and families impacted by sickle cell are seen, supported, and empowered.

👉 Take a moment this month to educate yourself, support sickle cell organizations, and help spread awareness. Together, we can make a difference.

TGIF, everyone! With back-to-school season here, it’s easy to focus on supplies, schedules, and scores. But as Bob Talbert reminded us, “Teaching kids to count is fine, but teaching them what counts is best.” Beyond academics, the lessons of kindness, respect, resilience, and empathy are the ones that shape who our children become.

As we head into the weekend, let’s reflect: What are the “what counts” lessons you want to pass on to the young people in your life? How can we help them grow not just in knowledge, but in character and compassion?
