Today, we commemorate the unwavering spirit of freedom, forged through the ultimate sacrifices of our heroes.

For many, Memorial Day sparks joyful gatherings, warm family moments, and the start of summer's promise.

Yet, for others, it's the poignant symbol of a flag, carefully folded and handed to trembling hands, a heartbreaking reminder that a loved one's journey home was not meant to be.

This solemn emblem carries the weight of selflessness, devotion, and the voids left at tables, birthdays, and life's milestones, forever altering the lives of those who mourn.

We pay tribute to the brave men and women who gave their lives for our nation's freedom, and we stand in solidarity with the families who bear the torch of their loved one's sacrifice.

May their courage inspire us to cherish the price of freedom.

As we bring EMS Week to a close, from nights at the ballfield to early mornings filled with home-cooked breakfasts, we want our crews to know just how appreciated they are.

EMS Week may be ending, but our gratitude — and the importance of the work these men and women do every single day — never does. Thank you for the long hours, the missed holidays, the compassion, and the commitment you continue to show this community.

To know her is to know compassion.
To see her is to see elegance.
To hear her is to hear professionalism.
To work with her is to work with excellence.

She leads with grace, serves with heart, and leaves every place better than she found it.

We are honored she chooses daily to be part of Rowan County Emergency Services.

Last night we recognized Paramedic Sally Roger’s as our Reed & Thompson, PLLC Hometown Hero!

Sally began her EMS career in 2006 with Rowan County EMS after spending 20 years
working in Human Resources. When that chapter ended, she asked herself what else she
would love to do — and nearly 20 years later, EMS has become not just a career, but a true
calling.

To Sally, working in EMS means being able to provide safety, security, and compassion to
someone who may be experiencing the worst day of their life. Her dedication, steady
presence, and heart for helping others have made a lasting impact on her patients,
coworkers, and community. Sally has completed additional training to qualify her as a
Community Paramedic.

Effective tomorrow, Friday, May 8th, at 8AM, Rowan County will lift the local burn ban within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling, which falls under the authority of the Rowan County Fire Marshal’s Office.

This means that open burning is once again permitted within 100 feet of a dwelling in accordance with state and local regulations. However, all burning must still be conducted responsibly and safely.

Please remember:

Never leave a fire unattended
Keep a water source readily available
Avoid burning during windy conditions
Ensure fires are completely extinguished
Burning of prohibited materials remains unlawful

⚠️ Important: Any burn activity beyond 100 feet of a dwelling remains under the authority of the N.C. Forest Service. Residents should continue to monitor guidance issued by the NC Forest Service regarding outdoor burning.

As always, if conditions change, restrictions may be reevaluated. Please use caution and help us keep Rowan County safe.
