Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley

Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley delivers nutritious meals to homebound seniors. Our name changed in 1998 to reflect our expanded service area.

Our goals are to improve the health and well-being of our clients and help them remain in their homes and maintain their independence. We’re an independent, 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, governed by a volunteer Board of Directors that was founded in 1972 and incorporated in 1985 as Meals on Wheels of Salinas. We’ve been delivering meals in Salinas since 1973 and in the rural areas of the Salinas Valley since 1994. We believe that good nutrition and independent living go hand in hand, and with the help of our caring volunteers and generous donors we make both possible everyday for those who are homebound. The temperature outside the Greenfield Veterans Memorial Hall was 100 degrees but that didn’t deter over 100 seniors to join us for the SOCOS Social! The Greenfield SOCOS Social was celebrating its 4th Anniversary and tables, as well as attendees, were decked out in party attire…green and gold balloons, a festive “red carpet” backdrop for photos and cute cupcakes with decorations. The Food Bank for Monterey County provided a refreshing lunch of chicken bowls, enjoyed by all. The Montalvo Band had seniors out of their seats, dancing to their music! Thank you to the staff at City of Greenfield CA for all their hard work making our seniors feel so special. The spotlight speaker for the day was Alzheimer's Association. We had many agencies in attendance including: Monterey-Salinas Transit; Monterey County Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council; Mee Memorial Healthcare System; Loaves, Fishes & Computers, Inc.; Alliance On Aging; Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley; City of Greenfield; Financial Global Services; Greenfield Pharmacy.

The outside temperature in Soledad was in the 80s but seniors were cool inside as they joined together for the monthly SOCOS Social held at Soledad Community Center today! Seniors enjoyed a meal provided and delivered by The Food Bank for Monterey County with a sweet treat of See’s Candies for dessert. We thank the Soledad Community Center staff as well as staff from attending agencies for helping serve meals and make every senior feel welcomed to the event. There was a special guest speaker, Supervisor Chris Lopez, who gave updates about South County community issues, took questions from the seniors and then joined us for lunch. Thank you Supervisor Lopez for sharing and listening to concerns from seniors. Additional agencies in attendance included: Monterey-Salinas Transit; Mee Memorial Healthcare System; Legal Services for Seniors; Health Projects Center; Alliance On Aging; Monterey County Area Agency on Aging Advisory Council; and Meals on Wheels of the Salinas Valley.
