CASA of Monterey County

CASA of Monterey County Learn how you can be a CASA! What do CASAs (Court Appointed Special Advocates) do for children in the foster care system?

CASA of Monterey County's mission is to train and support community volunteers who advocate for abused or neglected children placed in foster care, upholding the children's rights while pursuing a safe and permanent home. Understand and Support
How the child is doing: in their placement, in school, with friends and activities. Encourage
Introduce a child to healthy activities and model problem-sol

ving skills. Empower
Encourage a child’s self expression; validate their feelings, fears, and beliefs. Keep Promises
Visit regularly and follow-up on what is important for the child. Make Connections
Find people who can be lifelong connections for the child. Promote Success
Work with teachers, schools, and foster parents for academic success. Report
Provide the Judge with detailed information with which to make decisions. A trained volunteer advocate (that might be you) reviews the case information and consults with their Advocate Supervisor as well as the other professionals on the team (social workers, attorneys, foster parents, group homes) to develop a case plan focusing on the priority issue for the child.

Every Monday at 3 PM and Thursday at 4 PM this month, we are hosting online info sessions to break down exactly what a CASA does—and what it takes to protect young people in foster care and juvenile justice in our community.

No legal background required, just the commitment to show up. 💻⚖️

Our next advocate training cohort begins July 7th. Secure your spot for this week's online info session. casaofmonterey.org/become-a-casa/

The California state budget is being finalized right now, and the most important decisions will be made in the next two weeks. What happens in Sacramento over these next few days will directly affect 50,000+ children and youth in California’s foster care system.

We encourage CASA supporters to contact their representatives with a simple message:
"Thank you for your support of foster youth. Please do all you can to reinstate the $20 million per year in funding for CASA programs in California."

Since August 2019, Andrea has stood as a reliable anchor for her CASA youth. ⚖️

Outside of her advocacy work, Andrea is a children’s author and CSUMB graduate who understands that building trust with a young person doesn’t happen overnight. It happens over car rides, shared meals and the simple commitment to show up when it matters most.

Thank you, Andrea, for your dedication and heart. 🤝✨ Want to learn how you can get involved? Join us at one of our upcoming online information sessions: https://casaofmonterey.org/

We are incredibly moved by the turnout at this year’s Friends of CASA Luncheon! 🙌 CASA supporters and local leaders came together to raise over $224,000 to champion local children and youth in foster care and the juvenile justice systems.

With state and federal funding becoming less reliable, community and corporate partnerships are more critical than ever. Thank you to our Board, event sponsors, and panelists who spoke to the lasting impact of dedicated mentorship. 🌱

Scudder Roofing has been protecting homes in Monterey County for years, and now they’re helping us protect the futures of children in the foster care system. 🏠🛡️

By sponsoring our 2026 luncheon, their support ensures that our advocates can continue to be the "roof" that shelters our youth from the instability of the system.

The road through the foster care system is full of detours and sudden shifts. Valley Grading & Paving Inc. is helping us smooth out that path for our youth. 🚜🛣️

Their Silver Sponsorship for our 2026 Friends of CASA Luncheon allows our Advocates to navigate the legal and educational hurdles that stand in the way. We’re grateful to have local partners who aren't afraid to do the heavy lifting for our community.

Help us clear the path forward. https://casaofmonterey.org/
