You must have plucked a bit of rosemary for luck—our Library After Dark: Autumn Equinox Celebration mood board just dropped!

Adults, come be a part of the magic at El Gabilan Library on Tuesday, September 22 from 5:30-7:00 PM. We’ll welcome the fall season with tarot reading, seasonal arts & crafts, and some light refreshments.

Adults are invited to get library cards and check out items during the event. Printing, faxing, scanning, and computer services will not be available from 6-7 PM.

Happy National Library Card Sign-Up Month!

September is the time to reconnect with your local libraries to learn about the diverse free resources we provide for our communities in 2026. To weekly storytimes, ebooks/eaudiobooks, CA state park passes, and discounted museum tickets, libraries provide so much more than physical books and homework reference materials.

And exclusively for the month of September, replacement cards are FREE!

We are also welcoming back our popular 'Read Away Fines" program this month! All cardholders aged 0-100+ can reduce their eligible library fees by $5/day by simply 'reading them away.' Jennifer Hansen is a member of the "Salinas Puppy Raisers," a group of local volunteers who raise puppies for the Guide Dogs for the Blind organization. She has raised 5 puppies in 10 years. If you're curious about the process puppies experience to become Guide Dogs, you'll get a chance to learn all about it at our Healthy Living Series, "Dogs Making a Difference: From Puppy to Guide Dog" program at the El Gabilan Library on Tuesday, September 29th from 5-6 PM.

There will be two puppies, and a working Guide Dog present, as well as a dog that didn't pass all the hurdles to become a Guide Dog but is still making an impact in someone's life by helping in other ways.

Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.
