ALERT: Due to the Smoky Hill River reaching flood stage and the forecasted rain this weekend, KDOT workers will be on standby for traffic control as needed. Stay and if you can't see the road due to flood water- turn around. Water can hide hidden dangers, small cars can lose control in just 6 inches of fast-moving water, and 12 inches can sweep most vehicles away.

NOW OPEN: Bridge repair has been completed and the K-141 bridge N of Kanopolis lake in Ellsworth Co. is fully open to traffic.

The project began in March 2025 and faced delays related to materials and the bridge location.

While both lanes on the bridge are open to traffic, the contractor still has minor work to complete, most of which will not impact traffic.

ALERT: Use caution on I-70, I-135 and other highways in NC Kansas where numerous traffic signs are missing or damaged because of high winds Monday evening. Traffic signs primarily in Saline, Ottawa, Lincoln and Ellsworth counties were impacted by the high winds.

KDOT crews are working to repair or replace missing signs.

Repairing signs and determining all missing signs and replacing them could take time as many signs may need to be ordered, produced and delivered.

You're invited to join us!

KDOT will host a public open house on June 18 at the Abilene Community Center from 4-6pm, featuring information on the K-15 bridge replacement and shoulder widening project.

This project is in the final design phase with work to include shoulder widening along K-15, replacement of the bridge over Chapman Creek Drainage and adjustment to the vertical alignment to improve sight distance.
