Prescribed Fire Planned in the Moroni Peak Area to Improve Wildlife Habitat and Reduce Hazardous Fuels

Sevier County, Utah — The Fishlake National Forest plans to conduct prescribed fire operations in the Moroni Peak area during the upcoming week. The project area is located south of I-70 a few miles west of the Ivie Creek Rest Area on Forest Service–administered lands.

This planned prescribed fire is part of an ongoing effort to improve wildlife habitat conditions and reduce hazardous fuels across the landscape, lowering the potential for large uncharacteristic wildfire in the future.

Operations may begin as early as Wednesday, March 25 and continue through the weekend. Fire personnel plan to utilize both hand ignitions and Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) aerial ignitions to meet prescribed fire objectives efficiently and safely.

Smoke may be visible from surrounding communities and will be noticeable along Interstate 70. Motorists are asked to use caution when traveling through the area and to be aware of fire personnel and equipment working nearby.

All prescribed fire operations are conducted under carefully evaluated weather and fuel conditions and are closely monitored to ensure they meet resource objectives while minimizing impacts to the public.
