“Salida Station.
A small railroad town, is situated near the Stanislaus river, between Modesto and Lathrop, on the land of John Murphy, another one of the large farmers of the county.
There are two large warehouses here, & post-office, & -restaurant, and & blacksmith shop. One of the most prosperous sections of the county surrounds it. A church was established here a few years since; there is a public school also. Land has advanced in this vicinity from thirty to ffty per cent within the last two years. PIONEER PORTRAIT: Mrs. Joanna Ladd, who was the youngest child of the Feagins family, was brought by her parents, when three months old, to their farm near Salida, and here she grew to young womanhood, attending the schools of the neighborhood. At the age of eighteen she was married to Leonard Oramil Brewster, and came as a bride to the fine farm of 470 acres on the Stanislaus River, northeast of Salida where the Ladd family built their home.
