The Cambridge-Greenwich Police Department would like to remind residents that electric bicycles and motorized bikes are subject to New York State laws and safety regulations.

As e-bikes continue to grow in popularity, we are seeing an increase in unsafe operation, underage riders, and illegal off-road style electric bikes being operated on public streets. Parents and guardians are encouraged to review the laws and ensure children are operating legal and properly equipped vehicles.

Please remember:
• Riders must be at least 16 years old to operate an e-bike in New York State
• Riders ages 16 and 17 are required to wear a helmet
• E-bikes must follow traffic laws just like any other vehicle
• Sidewalk riding may be prohibited depending on local law
• Some high-powered “electric dirt bikes” sold online are NOT street legal and may require registration, insurance, and a licensed operator

Our goal is education, safety, and keeping our community safe for everyone — including pedestrians, motorists, and riders.

The Salem Volunteer Fire Department Inc. like every volunteer organization is always looking for new members.
There's more than just wearing an SCBA-airpak and going inside of a burning environment.
If you are 16 yrs of age or older and would like to join our organization, stop by any Tuesday evening around 6pm and see what's involved.
Positions include: Interior Firefighter's, Exterior Firefighter's, Driver's-pump operators, Fire police, Support group members-Non firematic & Junior Firefighters starting at age 14yrs.
There are minimum and maximum training requirements that are mandatory for anyone on the firematic side of the organization.

BATTERY EMERGENCIES AND ELECTRICAL STORAGE SYSTEMS (01-05-0125)
Full Description
The course gives the students information on the dangers associated with lithium-ion battery emergencies. Students are given knowledge on the uses, construction and hazards associated with lithium-ion battery storage systems. Students are also advised on firefighter personal protective equipment (PPE) needed to safely respond to these incidents as well recommendations to coordinate the incident and mitigate the hazards. The students are also given an overview on lithium-ion battery vehicle emergencies and recommendations to handle them.
