Salem Fire Department is partnering with the American Pyrotechnics Safety & Education Foundation (APSEF) to provide a limited number of free fireworks disposal buckets this Fourth of July.

Many fireworks that appear extinguished can remain hot for hours and have the potential to start fires when thrown into trash cans, recycling bins, garages, or against combustible materials.

The solution is simple: Soak used fireworks in water before disposal.

A bucket of water can help prevent a fire, protect your property, and keep first responders available for true emergencies.

Watch our social media channels for information on how and where to pick up a free disposal bucket while supplies last.

Celebrate safely. Soak before you toss.

Here for you 24/7/365.

Just after 11:30 this morning, we responded to a reporter brush fire on NW Half Mile Lane. We arrived to find a burn pile had spread to a grass field, burning about 1/16 of an acre, which we quickly extinguished. This burn pile had no bare dirt around it and wasnโ€™t being actively monitored.

This is the second burn pile that has spread in a week. Both instance didnโ€™t have bare dirt surrounding it and werenโ€™t being monitored.

Please remember that we will begin a county wide burn ban on ALL debris burning starting at 12:01am on Monday June 15th.

Please soak all old burn piles so they donโ€™t re-ignite.

The BLM's Stage 2 Fire Prevention Order is intended to reduce the risk of human-caused wildfires on public lands during periods of elevated fire danger. Restrictions include:
โ€ข No open fires, including charcoal briquettes, except at designated BLM campgrounds:
o Cavitt Creek Falls Campground
o Eagleview Group Campground
o Susan Creek Campground
o Tyee Campground

โ€ข Gas-powered chainsaws may only be operated before 10:00 a.m. or after 8:00 p.m. Battery-powered and electric chainsaws are exempt from these hourly restrictions and may be operated throughout the day. All chainsaw operations require a shovel, fire extinguisher, and a one-hour fire watch following use.

Additional restrictions, exemptions, and temporary area closures may apply under the BLM Fire Prevention Order.

These restrictions are designed to reduce the likelihood of sparks or heat sources igniting dry vegetation during the hottest and driest parts of the day. As fire season conditions continue to evolve, additional restrictions may become necessary.

Residents and visitors are encouraged to remain vigilant while working or recreating outdoors and to stay informed regarding changing fire conditions.

For the latest information regarding DFPA restrictions and fire season updates, visit www.dfpa.net or follow the Douglas Forest Protective Association on social media.
