This morning, we received our new LifePak 35 Cardiac Monitor, the most recent model that replaces our outdated LifePak 12. The cardiac monitors play a crucial role in acquiring vital signs, EKGs, and serving as a defibrillator during cardiac emergencies. After all shifts have undergone training, the new monitor will be placed into service, primarily on Squad 6, with the existing LifePak 15 being reassigned to Engine 2, both vehicles capable of Advanced Life Support.

Special appreciation is extended to the family of Walter Plues (SFD retiree), Joe Cappuzzello, Salem Amvets Post 45, Kiwanis, Rotary Club, Tractor Supply, Church Budget Envelope, Jake Gano of Tru-Cut, and Salem Community Foundation for their contributions and grants that helped fund the acquisition of the new monitor.

Earlier this evening, Shift 2 responded to a reported vehicle fire next to a garage. The fire was extinguished quickly but the vehicle was lost and the garage sustained damage to the exterior.

Attention: Salem PD has notified us that there is a major water outage in the city. It is widespread east of Lincoln Ave, both north and south of State St. The water department is working on it now.

🚨 FIRE WEATHER ALERT – NO OPEN BURNING TODAY 🚨

The Salem Fire Department is advising residents that elevated fire danger exists across eastern Ohio today due to:

🔥 Low humidity (20–30%)
💨 Wind gusts of 15–25 mph
🌾 Dry ground conditions

These conditions allow fires to start easily and spread rapidly.

🚫 REMINDER:
Open burning is prohibited between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM through June 1 per Ohio regulations.

⚠️ We strongly urge residents to avoid any outdoor burning today, including:
• Brush or debris burning
• Fire pits (during restricted hours)
• Burning trash or yard waste

Also use caution with:
• Ci******es
• Equipment that may create sparks
• Any activity that could ignite dry grass

Even a small spark can quickly become a large fire under these conditions.

This evening, Shift 2 responded to reports of power lines in the road. Upon investigation, multiple power poles were found broken after a large tree fell. The tree caused significant damage to a residence. The resident reported no injuries. The area at E 5th St and Hawley Ave is currently cordoned off as Ohio Edison addresses the repairs of the broken poles.

This afternoon, Shift 2 responded to two seperate brush fires at the same time. Unit 3 (brush truck) responded to Damascus and Engine 1 responded to Green Township. Off-duty personnel were paged in to cover the city for any further calls.

Shift 3 took advantage of today's weather to train on hose advancement.
