Today, the Marion County Board of Commissioners joined communities across the country in recognizing the importance of su***de prevention—and reminding people that help and hope are available.

Su***de prevention is something all of us can be part of. Check in on the people in your life. Listen without judgment. Learn the warning signs. And if you or someone you know is struggling, reach out for help.

⚠️ Unhealthy Air Quality Advisory for Eastern Marion County 💨

The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has issued an air quality advisory for Eastern Marion County through Wednesday 9/2/26. Unhealthy air quality is occurring in the Santiam Canyon from east of Mehama due to smoke from nearby wildfires.

Go indoors if you do not feel well. This can include chest pain, aggravated cough, or difficulty breathing. Anyone active outdoors may feel these symptoms, especially sensitive groups like children, older adults, outdoor workers, and people with chronic conditions. Keep activities light and short outdoors. Consider moving all activities indoors where air is filtered.

For outdoor activities for youth, consider the following:
• Cancel the event.
• Move the event indoors.
• Postpone the event.
• Move the event to an area with “good” air quality.

Recovery can be hard. Having a safe place to live, support from other moms, and the ability to stay connected with your children can make a meaningful difference.

Commissioner Danielle Bethell and Congresswoman Andrea Salinas recently stopped by Her Place to visit with our residents and staff. Thank you for taking the time to connect with the people who make this community special.

Her Place is a safe and supportive home for pregnant and parenting women with substance use disorders. Women can live with their young children (up to age 5) while working on recovery, building daily living skills, receiving treatment, and working toward a more stable future for their families. Her Place also provides onsite childcare during treatment groups and support for moms working toward reunification with their children.

A reminder before you travel this weekend: North Fork Road is closed through October 31, 2026 for a landslide mitigation project near milepost 5.

Traffic accessing beyond MP 5 will need to use the detour route which will be Gates Hill Rd and OR-22.

🚧ROAD CLOSURE🚧

French Prairie Rd NE is to through traffic between Highway 219 NE and River Road NE from mid-August through November for a bridge replacement project.

Local access will be maintained during construction, but because the bridge is being replaced you will not be able to cross it from either direction. Local and emergency vehicles, as well as through traffic, are required to use the approved detour using Highway 219 and River Road.

“We continue to urge OHA to partner with counties, providers, and the people directly affected as they update rules,” said Commissioner Colm Willis, Chair. “Protecting our staff and the residents they care for through these commonsense changes is the right thing to do.”

This Week, Marion County filed a formal rulemaking petition with the Oregon Health Authority (OHA), asking the agency to reverse a series of administrative rule changes that endanger staff and residents at licensed mental health residential treatment facilities.
