When temperatures climb into the 90s and beyond, even sun-loving crops can feel the heat. Temporary shade cloth can help protect tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, and other heat-sensitive plants from excessive sun exposure and heat stress. It can also help reduce sunscald on fruits and slow moisture loss from the soil. With the heat advisory today, consider providing shade and make sure you stay hydrated!

🔥 Fire on the Horizon: Planning for Post-Fire Recovery in Stayton

Join us for a workshop in Stayton, OR, focused on practical steps landowners, residents, and communities can take to prepare for and recover from wildfire impacts.
Topics include:
* Assessing your risk
* Making a plan – set goals and plan actions needed in the event of a wildfire
* Getting practiced –options and methods for addressing post-fire woodland management needs
* Getting connected – types and sources of assistance you may need for timely post-fire response
* Learning from landowner experiences after the 2020 wildfires.

Whether you live in a wildfire-prone area or want to better understand post-fire recovery, this workshop offers research-based information and local expertise.

🫙Before you start up the pressure canner this season, make sure your dial gauge is reading accurately.
OSU Extension recommends testing dial gauges annually to help ensure safe pressure canning.
Bring your dial-gauge pressure canner lid to the Salem Saturday Market and have your gauge tested for FREE by OSU Extension food preservation experts. We offer testing for Presto, Mirro and Granite Ware dial gauges (either on the lid or the gauge alone). We are unable to test All American lids.
