Today, fulfilling my Constitutional duty to fill vacancies, I appointed Judge Stephen Bushong and Judge Bronson James to the Oregon Supreme Court, Judge Megan Jacquot to the Oregon Court of Appeals, and Bryan Francesconi and Rima Ghandour to the Multnomah County Circuit Court.

Throughout my time as Governor, I have sought to appoint highly-qualified individuals with deep connections to their communities, extensive courtroom experience, and professional and lived experiences that are representative of all of Oregon.

The people I am appointing today, including to our highest courts, represent the best of those qualities, and I am grateful they are willing to answer the call to service.

I have appointed 112 judges to Oregon’s courts during my time in office, who bring to the bench a deep understanding of our criminal justice and legal systems––including the inequities that persist within those systems––and the people they serve.

Thank you to all judges across Oregon for your critically important service to the people of Oregon.

Thank you to everyone who made the Mid-Willamette Valley Intermodal Center possible.

The center is good for the economy and reduces highway congestion by providing the infrastructure for transferring containers full of cargo and agricultural products from trucks to rail cars to move freight in a more environmentally friendly way.

Justice is not advanced by taking a life, and the state should not be in the business of executing people—even if a terrible crime placed them in prison. Today, I am commuting all death sentences in Oregon to life without parole, so we no longer have anyone facing ex*****on here.

The death penalty is immoral. Since taking office in 2015, I have continued Oregon’s moratorium on ex*****ons. I am taking this final action for the 17 individuals with death sentences before I leave office to ensure that none of them will be put to death by the state.

Every second counts in an earthquake, which is why ShakeAlert is a critical resource to keeping Oregonians safe. I'm so pleased to see this system be implemented in Medford School District 549C.

MEDFORD, Ore. —The Medford School District says it’s leading the state in implementing an earthquake early warning system. The district says safety and security are its core values, that’s why it’s investing in the project. It’s the first in the state to fully implement the ShakeAlert syst...

It was an honor to join Secretary Deb Haaland, California Governor Newsom, and Tribal leaders to celebrate the final approval to remove the Klamath River dams. For so many people, today is the culmination of a lifetime of work to restore the healthy waters and fish stocks of the Klamath Basin.

It has taken a broad coalition working together to finally realize the removal of these dams, and that over 400 miles of the Klamath River will flow freely again.

This is an incredibly important step forward on the path towards restorative justice for the peoples of the Klamath Basin, and towards restoring health to the river, as well as everyone and everything that depends on it.

Our health care workers are being pushed to their limits by this year’s combination of flu, RSV, and COVID-19 hospitalizations. I've issued an executive order to give Oregon hospitals additional flexibility to ensure there are enough health care workers to meet current needs.

In addition to my executive order, Oregon Health Authority is pursuing supplemental nurse staffing contracts of up to $25 million to help address critical workforce shortages.

As health care workers do everything they can to keep Oregonians healthy and safe, we must all do our part to help them. They are working around the clock to protect the people most vulnerable to severe respiratory illnesses — including our young children and seniors.

I'm asking Oregonians to come together to help our neighbors & health care heroes this holiday season. Stay home if you are sick, stay up to date on your vaccinations, & consider wearing a mask in crowded indoor situations—especially if you are at higher risk for severe illness.
