Smucker House - Salem Federation of Women's Clubs Beautiful Victorian home for the Salem Community to use and enjoy. Rent for a shower, family event or for a group to have a wonderful place to meet.

The Smucker House was left to the Women of Salem who formed the Salem Federation of Women's clubs. Clubs are welcome to join the federation and use the house for their meetings and events. Current members include the Salem Book Club, the Salem Bridge Club, the Salem Preservation Society and the Mahjong Club. The home is also rented to individuals who may need a place to host a shower, recital, mee

ting or other event. The home features a meeting room, card tables, chairs,piano, and a full kitchen. Message us for information on using the house.

Here are some photos of the Tea with Eddie Murphy portraying Harriet Tubman. Thank you to all who attended and supported the Salem Women's Federation and the Smucker House. It was a wonderful afternoon!!

Thank you to the Salem Garden club, Monday Mahjong, Tuesday Mahjong, Sue Black and Anna of "So Berry Sweet" for basket and shawl raffle. Also, a big thank you to the United Quilt Guild for sharing their quilts with us to be raffled.

Thank you to everyone who purchased tickets for the Harriet Tubman Tea. We are pleased to say we are sold out!

The tea is sure to be a spectacular high tea. To add to the event, as Ladies like to do, wear your special tea hat and receive a prize.

A raffle will take place for a chance to win a quilt made by the United Quilting Guild.

Additional raffles will be for a "Breakfast basket" donated by the Salem Area Garden Club, a "Snacks Galore" basket donated by the Tuesday Mahjong Club, and a "So Berry Sweet" basket of homemade soaps, balms, etc. donated by Anna Berry, a friend of the Smucker House and a "Blooms of Bucks" donated by the Monday Mahjong Club.

A special donation to be raffled is the beautiful Shawl donated and handmade by Sue Black from Tuesday Mahjong Club. The detail, various stitches and colors of this shawl are beautiful.

Raffle tickets will be $1 each or 6 for $5.

See you on May 4th, Tea is from 11 - 2PM.

Spring is just around the corner. The Salem Federation of Women's Clubs will be hosting their annual geranium sale soon. Geraniums will be $1.50 each with colors being pink, white, red, deep pink/violet, and salmon. Orders can be taken from messaging us on our page, ordering from any member, or emailing us at [email protected]. Delivery to be Saturday, May 18th at 1904 Depot Road. You will be called when your order is ready for pickup.

It was a great time with Art by Anissa making wind chimes at the Smucker House. Thank you to those who attended and to Teresa for making her home made lemon bars... Oh, so good!

On March 13, 2024, at 7pm, the Salem Area Garden Club will meet at the Smucker House for fun time making Wind Chimes. Anissa DiLeo of Art by Anissa will direct us in making our unique chimes. We hope you will attend and bring a friend.

Each participant will need to bring 5-6 wind chime bells or something equivalent. If your looking to purchase them, search "wind chime bells" on Amazon to see different options. Most will patina after being exposed to the weather but there are difference looks and sounds, if desired, participants may bring special pieces they wish to include. They can be seashells, special beads, glass or metal pieces but, if they don't have a hole, we will have to be creative in how to include them. The main base, easy to tie line, beads, shells and other treasures for attaching will be provided.

Join us for a fun evening and a great way to welcome in spring. Light refreshments will be provided.

The February celebration at the Salem Women's Book Club. Members keep increasing, and the books reviewed are very interesting. After each meeting light refreshments are enjoyed by all.

Salem Women's Book Club to host Pat Tingle speaking about Children's literature on Monday, March 18,1:00P.M. at the Smucker House, 271 S. Broadway, Salem, Ohio

Ms. Tingle has a vast collection of children's books and will speak from her years of teaching experience encouraging children to read.

A discussion will follow about why some books are being banned from school libraries.

There will be a brief meeting at 1:00 followed by Ms. Tingles talk, then a dessert and beverages. All are welcome.

Located at 271 South Broadway in historic Salem, Ohio the Salem Federation of Women's Clubs was left to the women of Salem by Ruth Smucker in 1954.

The beautiful home provides a welcoming place for women to gather, meet new people, experience new activities, while also providing to the community a unique rental space in a grand century home listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Become a friend of the Smucker House for a yearly fee of $25 and also enjoy the benefits of the clubs that use the home for their events. In addition, the home is available for unique rentals such as wedding showers, baby showers, and specialty presentations.

Some of our regular activities are;
* Salem Area Garden Club - monthly hands-on activities and garden activities
* Work with the OSU Master Gardeners and see what it takes to become one.
* Book Club - the club has been in existence since 1953.
* Weekly Mahjong with other members
* Annual geranium and chrysanthemum sales
* Holiday Home tours
* Preservation Society - sharing preservation ideas and helping to preserve Salem's Historic structures.
* Health series - Reiki Training, Hygge, Qigong and Managing Pain
* Collecting warm coats for the Blue Coats, a non-profit that helps Veterans and those in need.
* Non-Profit Day - A day to show case our community non-profit groups and share activities with children.

We will start off with a lovely gentle yoga session with Rae starting at 9 am which will help open and prepare us for the day.

Madison Orlando - Massage Alchemist, Reiki Master

Madison will educate the group on the tradition of Usui Reiki and review of lessons learned in the level one Reiki practitioner class. She will then instruct the class in Reiki symbols and distance healing methods.

Madison will lead us in meditation to further connect us to the day followed by discussion on what we experienced during the meditation.

Discussion - 3:00-4:00pm

This time is reserved to discuss our experiences during the Reiki II attunment and practice session.

Location is at the "The Historic Smucker House", Salem OH

Once all who wish to share have discussed their experience, we will move on to learning the Reiki symbols and distant health and practice tracing the symbols.

Attunment - 2:00-2:30pm

Practice - 2:30-3:00

We will pair up and practice our newly learned skills as Reiki II practitioners.

Our Story

The Smucker House was left to the women of Salem who formed the Salem Federation of Women's Clubs in 1953. Organizations may join the federation and use the house for their meetings and events. Current members include the Salem Book Club, Bridge Club, Salem Preservation, and Mahjong Club. The facility may be rented by individuals, groups, or businesses who need a place to host a meeting, class, shower, recital, party, or other event. Smucker House can accommodate up to 60 people seated. The L-shaped meeting room can be set with card tables, rounds, or rectangles and has a piano and fully-equipped kitchen. You must provide your own table coverings and clean up after your event.
