The Oregon Department of Corrections is proud to partner with (KOG) on the "Hose to Tow" project, an innovative wildfire prevention effort that gives retired fire hose a new purpose.

At Warner Creek Correctional Facility, adults in custody transform decommissioned fire hose into tow chain covers that remind drivers to secure their chains and help prevent wildfires. The covers are distributed by KOG at community events throughout Oregon, including the Oregon State Fair.

This partnership supports wildfire prevention while providing meaningful opportunities for adults in custody to contribute to public safety and give back to their communities. We are grateful for KOG's 85 years of leadership in wildfire education and proud to work together to help keep Oregon safe.

Active construction across the street is generating heavy dump truck traffic. These large vehicles make wide turns at the Beach Access/Wanapa intersection and have significant blind spots. Please use extra caution when entering and exiting the parking lot.

Road debris in the area may also pose a hazard — drive carefully.

Phase Two is rolling at Santiam Correctional Institution!
Adults in custody are earning college credit, industry certifications, and hands‑on construction experience through the Chemeketa Community College pre‑apprenticeship program. A strong step toward strong futures!

WCCF is currently experiencing a power outage (Monday at 9:30pm), which is affecting the AIC network. AIC phones will be down until local utility providers are able to restore service.

The Friends & Family Commissary Ordering Pilot Program is now in the "evaluation" phase. Packages were successfully delivered to CCCF and PRCF last month. Stay tuned for more information regarding if we'll be able to continue and expand this program.

Strength, Service, and Community

The Oregon State Penitentiary recently hosted a Murph Competition, bringing together adults in custody, staff members, and two distinguished veterans—Chris, who served with the U.S. Marine Corps 1st Battalion, 6th Marine Regiment, and Patrick, who served with the U.S. Marine Corps Fleet Anti-Terrorism Security Team (FAST) Company—for a challenging test of endurance, resilience, and teamwork.

Participants completed the demanding Murph workout in honor of Lt. Michael P. Murphy, demonstrating determination, perseverance, and mutual support throughout the event.

The competition also provided an opportunity to recognize and honor veterans among our AIC and staff populations, as well as all who have served our nation in the Armed Forces. Their dedication and sacrifice embody the spirit of service and resilience that the Murph Challenge represents.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make the event a success.
