It takes a villageβ€”and this village showed up.

OEM Portland Metro Regional Coordinator Peter Lundgren joined community partners, volunteers, and residents to celebrate the opening of the Cedar Hills Emergency Resiliency Hub. This new hub will serve as a gathering place for emergency communication, resources, training, and community coordination during disasters.

The hub is a great example of what can happen when neighbors, nonprofits, local government, and community organizations work together to strengthen resilience.

Preparedness starts at home, grows with neighbors, and builds stronger communities. Learn more about how you can Be 2 Weeks Ready at home and in your neighborhood.

Community Preparedness in Action!

On May 30, OEM’s Community Preparedness Coordinator and State Exercise Officer partnered with Feed’em Freedom to host a Be 2 Weeks Ready: Cooking Without Power workshop for residents of the Albina One housing community in Portland.

Ten households learned practical emergency preparedness skills through an interactive wildfire preparedness activity and hands-on cooking demonstration focused on preparing meals during emergencies when power may be unavailable.

Participants also received preparedness supplies, including shelf-stable food items, first aid kits, and flashlights provided by the Portland Opportunities Industrialization Center (POIC), along with Be 2 Weeks Ready toolkits, preparedness bags, and educational materials from OEM.

By building everyday preparedness skills and providing essential resources, we're helping Oregon communities become more resilient and ready for emergencies.
