I was originally told by County DPW that the bridge would be completed by the last week of October, now I am told it will be about 3 for weeks.

These items which can be brought to the site for free, proper disposal include:

· Pesticides, Fertilizers, Pool & Household Chemicals/Cleaners

· Oil-based Paints, Spray Cans

· Paint Thinner, Stripper, & Solvents

· Batteries (lead acid, rechargeable-NO ALKALINE)

· Oil, Gasoline, Kerosene, Antifreeze

· Mercury (thermometers, thermostats, metal)

· Propane Tanks & Cylinders (full or empty)

Items that will not be accepted include:

· Tires

· Electronic Waste

· Latex Paint (for disposal remove lid and dry contents and dispose with regular refuse disposal)

· Medical or Infectious Waste

· DEA Controlled Substances

· Explosives or Ordnance

· Radioactive Compounds

· Compressed Gas cylinders

· Type A or B Organic Peroxides

Residents will be required to provide proof of residency within Washington County, Driver’s License, Tax Bill, and/or recent Utility Bill. Residents will be required to certify that wastes were generated by households in Washington County and will be limited to dropping off for disposal materials listed above and limited to the following quantities two hundred (200) pounds of solids and two hundred (200) gallons of liquid total.

Please put the word out: No luck finding a crossing guard for the start of school on Wednesday.

Anyone out there who may know someone who is looking a a part time job???? The Town of Salem is in urgent need of a school crossing guard. We have been looking for quite sometime and with school starting in a couple of weeks, we really need to find someone. Please help me put out the word. Contact the Town office, at 854-3277 for more info.

The bridge on West Broadway on County Rt 30 past the oil tanks will be closed as of Tuesday 8/15 so it can be replaced. Detours will be set up on Monday 8/14 taking cars out of Town to Hanks Road to Cemetery road, however given the Hanks bridge has a 10 ton limit any trucks over that will have to go to Black Creek Road then Cemetery Road. This process will take 12 weeks depending on the weather. Any questions please call the Town office at 854-3277.

Message from the NYS Tax Office to Washington County Real Property Director Laura Chadwick concerning the rebate checks for Salem Residents

Town meeting on Wednesday 1/11/2017 discussed the Dollar General coming to Salem. The process will be that they submit there application to the Town Planning Board( which was done) then go to the town board for a denial because its in a residential area to then go to the Zoning Board of Appeals to hold a public hearing and make a determination. All this is basic d on our Town meeting with our attorney's.

Many folks have asked where the Salem Property Tax Cap Rebate checks from the State of New York are for the Salem residents. Below is the response from the NYS Controllers Office concerning this matter. Laura is Laura Chadwick head of real property at the County whom I reached out to for an answer. Thanks for your email. I apologize for your residents not receiving their checks yet. As you correctly mentioned, the abolishing of the Village this past year caused issues and our staff are working on resolution to be expected in Jan.
