Hello Crossler Families!

This is Laura Perez, Interim Principal at Crossler Middle School. I have enjoyed getting to know the students and staff in my short tenure here, and I appreciate what a great school this is. So it is with great pleasure that I am able to announce that Jen Williams, will be the new Principal of Crossler Middle School!

The following is a message from Jen Williams to the Crossler Community.

I was raised in Salem-Keizer and started my career in education working for the office at McNary High School my senior year of high school in 1995. I was the first in my family to graduate college earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Oregon followed by my master’s degree from George Fox. While in college and grad school I worked as an Instructional Assistant within the Salem-Keizer school district in a variety of classrooms and have enjoyed spending the last 20 years working in middle schools within the Salem-Keizer school district. In 2003 I joined the staff at Leslie as a teacher where I worked until 2012.. In 2015 I joined the Claggett Creek community serving as the Assistant Principal until 2020. For the past three years I have had the privilege to serve as the Assistant Principal at Crossler Middle School.

As we close out the school year and think ahead to the 23-24 season, I want you to know how much I am looking forward to providing opportunities to get to know you and about your experiences in our community. In doing so we will be able to continue to create a school where students thrive and feel welcome!

Yesterday, the Leadership Class hosted an Honor Flight Assembly to kick off our Veterans' Day fundraiser!

The South Willamette Valley Honor Flight and Salem Star Valor Quilters joined us to recognize and honor two local veterans as well a few of our staff veterans. Students are collecting donations from now through Veterans' Day to help send local veterans to Washington DC with the Honor Flight Program. Last year we raised $5,333, sending 5 local vets. This year's goal is $6,000 to send 6 veterans. We hope you join us in honoring those that sacrificed for our freedom in donating to our fundraiser.

Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, an official statewide holiday. It is our chance to celebrate and honor the histories, cultures and identities of our Indigenous students and families. We choose to celebrate the languages, the cultural practices, the viewpoints, the histories and unique gifts that all our Indigenous students and families bring to our schools and our community.
