Our Salem Cougars braved the weather yesterday to walk, raise money, and show their support for a fellow Cougar in the fight against cystic fibrosis.

Grade 5 had their second-to-last Boats for Kids lesson on Friday! During the lesson, they learned about sheet metal — how it is manufactured and the many ways it is used to create a variety of products.

Working in teams as marine architects, they designed, sketched, and built prototypes of their very own marine vessels. After production, they tested their ships’ seaworthiness in water, and the results were amazing! The designs were incredibly creative and unique.

They even got to name their vessels, with favorites including the U.S.S. Guppy and the U.S.S. Cheeseblock.

Salem School had an amazing showing at the State Track & Field Meet last Saturday! Congratulations to all of our athletes for representing Salem with determination and pride!

⭐ Highlights from the day:

• Josie Chopp placed 3rd overall in High Jump with a jump of 4’6”
• Lily Ganacoplos earned 4th overall in the 800m with a time of 2:31
• Bea Aldana placed 4th overall in Shot Put with a throw of 32’2”
• Kasey Larensen finished 8th overall in Shot Put
• Baileigh Donovan earned 9th overall in Discus
• Ryder Shaw finished 13th overall in Long Jump

The Salem Girls Team tied for 5th place overall in the State!

We are so proud of every athlete who competed and gave their best effort last weekend. Great job, Salem!

Memorial Day Parade has been cancelled.

Recently, 68 Salem 4th-8th graders made to choice to use their recess and free time to run.

They had 5 weeks to run either a half or full marathon. Yesterday, Hartford Marathon Association put on their Final Mile event.

We had 58 Cougars attend and complete their final mile with students from all over the state. We could be prouder of these students who chose to challenge themselves to improve their fitness.

Overall the students ran 1086.40 miles over the five weeks. Which equals 41full marathons and 3,104 total weekly average active minutes.
