June is World Elder Abuse Awareness Month!

Did you know as many as 1 in 10 older Americans are abused, neglected, or exploited daily? We all deserve to lead happy and healthy lives free from abuse as we age, yet older people are mistreated more often than we think. In an effort to raise awareness, Salem County Office on Aging & Disabilities is asking you to participate by Painting the Town Purple.

We at the Salem County Sheriff’s Office are truly humbled by the overwhelming support from the community in the wake of the deaths of our K-9’s. We further understand the frustration in the lack of information provided on social media outlets. The incident was immediately turned over to the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office to conduct a complete and thorough investigation. To preserve the integrity of that investigation, our office must refrain from further comment. This office seeks to understand the full details of how this incident transpired and plans to release information when able. Until then, we must respectfully defer all questions to the Salem County Prosecutor’s Office.

Members of the Salem County Sheriff’s Office are feeling a deep sense of sadness with the tragic loss on Friday afternoon of two of our K-9 officers Rip and Boomer. Their loyalty, service, and dedication to protecting the residents of Salem County will never be forgotten. We honor their lives with gratitude for all they gave and the service they performed alongside our officers in the countless ways they helped protect our community. Please keep our K-9 handler and his family, along with our entire K-9 unit, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
