MONTANA'S NEW ENHANCED MOVE OVER LAW:
This year, legislators passed a law amending and improving Montana’s Move Over Law.

The enhanced move over law goes into affect
OCTOBER 1, 2023

Changes to the law include:

- Specific speed rules and verbiage pertaining to slowing down upon approach and passing of an authorized vehicle.

- The addition of Utility workers under the protection of the Move Over Law.

These changes create a clearer definition of a driver’s responsibility as well as include personnel from the Utility profession who routinely work along Montana’s roadways and require the same safety and room to work as other roadside professions.

Fines and penalties remain the same as does the charge of Reckless Endangerment to personnel in the event a driver fails to obey the law.

A Big Thank You to
Gordon Hendrickson, and all who helped and participated in St. Regis Fire Dept. Auction today! We removed a lot of equipment and raised some good money to the purchase of a Newer better Ambulance! Our fleet has been getting updated over the last few years. Our last on the list will be a better more updated Quick Response Unit. (Ambulance) As most people know in our area we are a Non Profit that also does work with DNRC Wildland fires to upgrade equipment for our response area without asking for more funds from our tax payers. It is an honor and a privilege to keep costs low, as well as upgrade for our growing communities needs. We appreciate all of the support from those who purchased items, and also our staff who try our best to help in the most stressful of times. We are your neighbors. And here to help!

Here is the newest addition to our Fleet.

This water tender started its life on a US Naval base in Virginia as a flat bed tasked with hauling shipping containers. We were able to obtain this truck through a DOD program where surplus military equipment is offered to local governments. After we received the truck, we sent it to the Montana State Prison where inmates in the “back to work”program repainted the truck. The truck was then sent to Randco Tanks for tank and other equipment installation.

The truck is a 2007 Freightliner M2-106. It features a Caterpillar C7 engine, Allison Automatic transmission and is all-wheel drive. Tender 7 is now in service, ready to serve St. Regis and the surrounding communities.

All Lolo National Forest lands located in Sanders and Mineral County are now in EXTREME Fire Danger. This includes the Plains-Thompson Falls Ranger District, Superior Ranger District and the western portion of the Ninemile Ranger District that is located in Mineral County.

When the fire danger is "extreme", fires of all types start quickly and burn intensely. All fires are potentially serious and can spread very quickly with intense burning. Small fires become big fires much faster than at the "very high" level. These fires are very difficult to suppress and may become dangerous and often last for several days.

In these conditions, it is critical to remain cautious and vigilant with fire, especially campfires. Never, ever leave a campfire unattended and ensure it is cool to the touch before leaving. Firefighters on patrol across the forest have been encountering and putting out numerous abandoned campfires within the last two weeks.
