This weekend, we paused to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of the Enoch D. Davis Center and to honor the legacy of the trailblazer himself, the late Rev. Dr. Enoch Douglas Davis. Special thanks to the Davis family for loaning some of Rev. Davis’ personal documents to display at the center. Stop by to see them for yourself when you have a chance!

Ninety-nine years ago, St. Petersburg College was founded on a simple but powerful American promise: that everyone, no matter their background, deserves a pathway to opportunity.

As we mark nearly a century of excellence, we also honor the vital chapters of this journey. We remember the enduring legacy of Gibbs Junior College—its faculty, alumni, and community members who, during a time of institutional segregation, stood up to ensure Black students had a place to learn, grow, and lead. Their resilience is woven into the very fabric of SPC.

Progress isn't just about looking back, though—it’s about looking forward. The upcoming renovation of the historic Jordan Park gym reminds us that our institutions remain living, breathing parts of our neighborhoods. By revitalizing this space, SPC is ensuring that the next generation has a place to gather, connect, and build a brighter future together.

Congratulations, SPC. Let’s keep moving forward.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation was shaken by an unspeakable tragedy. But in our darkest hour, we didn’t falter—we came together. We chose unity over division, and hope over fear.

Today, on this September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, we honor the lives we lost and the heroes who rushed toward danger by giving back to the communities we love.

I turned this day of mourning into a powerful day of action.

A special shoutout to those who rolled up their sleeves today at the Daystar Life food pantry and clothing closet. By feeding the hungry and clothing those in need, you remind us of the fundamental truth at the heart of the American story: that we are our brother’s keeper, we are our sister’s keeper, and when we lift each other up, our nation grows stronger.

To everyone who volunteered across the country today—thank you. Your service keeps the true spirit of America alive. 🇺🇸

On this , we take a moment to honor the hard-won victories of the working men and women who built this country from the ground up.

It is easy to forget that the protections we often take for granted today—the five-day workweek, the eight-hour workday, and the very concept of the weekend—were not gifts handed down from on high. They were won through the grit, determination, and solidarity of organized labor.

When workers stand together, they move the entire country forward. So today, let us say thank you to our unions, recommit ourselves to the fight for fair wages and safe working conditions, and celebrate the dignity of every job.

Happy Labor Day, everybody.
